Bump / knot / lump on chick's head

Well... I guess its good news, I can't figure out which chick had the problem! I guess the swelling or whatever it was went away. A few have some puffier baby hairs in that area, but nothing abnormal looking now. I'm not sure what to make of it, but for now, I guess they are ok.

One of my baby chicks also has a fluid filled cyst on the side of its head it is a week old at first I thought it was a longer patch of fluff and was calling it tufty. I said to my hubby not sure if I should call it tufty or tumor joke. He said it's not a tumor is it, I told him I didn't know. So on further investigation it does appear to be fluid filled. Did yours go on its own or did you need to Lance it and draw out the fluid? My chicks behaviour is normal and doesn't appear in pain. It is a blrw. Thanks.

first thing I would do is take a 3cc syringe with a 22 gage needle and draw fluid out of the cyst and see what your dealing here is the fluid clear or is there infection or blood don't lance it yet . insert the needle in the lowest point of n the cyst be sure you go into the cyst this does the least amount of damage to the tissue and doesn't leave a open wound If the fluid is clear I would draw as much as you can out if the fluid blood red do the same thing. and just watch it checking daily If you find puss or infection you will need to flush it . at this time lance the cyst as low as you can try to keep it small just large enough to drain take the syringe and needle use hydrogen peroxide and flush the wound apply antibacterial ointment any kind you have will do. start the chick on a antibiotic I use DURVET duramycin-10 soluble power 1/4 teaspoon per qt. clean water or until it looks like lime Gatorade treat for 5 to 7 days I get mine at or local farmers Co op or TSC I give this to all my chicks when they leave our kitchen and go into the brooder shed at 7 days old just as a precaution .if you keep chickens its a good thing to have on hand but like all meds for chickens is dosed for a 100 birds a cyst is a puzzle hard to figure why its there and what caused it good luck with your chick

I am an rn. But I am a bit nervous poking the little thing. I think I will wait a couple of days and if it doesn't improve or gets worse I will follow your recommendation. I will get the antibiotic tomorrow to be ready. Thanks for your help.

The cyst had grown larger, so I cleaned it with betadine. Used a needle and syringe and drew out 2mls of straw colored fluid. Then I applied antibiotic ointment. Hope she will be ok. She is the tames out of the bunch, climbing onto my hand and falling asleep. She seems ok after procedure. The others are kind of nosy. Thinking ingredients about putting a blob of Vaseline on the rest of them so she blends in.

Looked like serous fluid. I think she hatched with it, and it increased. I don't think it is infected. Her behaviour is normal.
