bumps on my chickens eyes and beaks and eye swollen shut! has anyone seen this?

We were pretty sure it was fowl pox too that is why I posted this to see what info you had, I think maybe the hatchery just wants to make more money. Thanks for the info. I feel better now!

Yeah, I am pretty sure that's what mine have is fowl pox. I will still put up some pictures of them, though. Now, another question... is that something that can be cured with an antibiotic? I will certainly do some research on my own, just curious if anyone knows.

No, it just has to run its course. Antibiotics seemed to be used to prevent secondary infections by some but I don't. The silkie I have that had both eyes swelled shut I had to put warm compresses on her eyes to pry them open enough to let the pressure from the puss abate...but even then she still suffered some eye sight loss. Mostly you have to watch for the ones that seem to not want to eat and drink....that will kill them for sure. None of mine have ever had sores in the throat, that I could tell, so I don't know about dealing with that.

Poor thing. I know they are miserable. I made scrambled eggs mixed with cottage cheese and fed mine. Some hardly have a speck...others were worse.

mine had this also and it was diagnosed as fowl pox...I vaccinated all my chickens and also I read somewhere that if a hen that is laying eggs while having the fowl pox will pass down a natural immunity to their chicks when hatched...but once they are over the fowl pox then the rest of her egss that hatch later on will have to be vaccinated from day one so they would not succum to this disease, thought it was just a little helpful info... I just was able to vaccinate the ones that didnt have it as vaccination would do no good to the ones that had it...I think he had told me it would run its course in 3 to 4 weeks and then they would have an immunity to it or something like that

When my chickens have a swollen eye or this problem I give them antibiotic and it has seemed to help

i know this is an old post, i know of my gran use to put ordinary shoe polish over the bumps on the eyes and beaks and they use to get better after a few weeks, wella few did die, but manny came around.....
and another trick for the scaly legs is to use ordinary old motor oil, and a week later all scales are new again...i tried this myself and it worked.
