Buying Baytril - Buyer Beware

Just as an update, Angel, my poor Delaware with the prolapse, died early on Thursday morning. I guess she was sicker than she let on, and perhaps I should have given her the antibiotic.

She was only just over 2yrs old, and laid overly huge eggs. I feel so bad.

I have a one year old ee who I believe had an egg break inside her...she passed a stinky mess on Monday...when checking her vent I saw something. That I thought was poo stuck to her bum..wearing gloves I tried to pick it off but it was stuck to some pink tissue and looked like boiled egg yolk...this was late at night..next day gave her warm soak in Epsom salt water..vets here know little as I do...

Explain subcutaneously in bolus of fluids to someone who knows vertical. Nothing.

And where is an
injectable site?

Her bum is hard but not distended with fluid or eggs...she still eats bbut seems moopy...still difficult to catch...still roosting..
poo is kinda green liquidity with white in it..

Is she beyond help?
I feel so helpless...I love blossom and I don't want to loose her but I don't like suffering.

Subcutaneous in a bolus of fluids means you would give a small amount of sterile fluids with the Baytril under the skin. When Baytril is injected it can cause injection site necrosis (sores) and the bolus of fluids is supposed to minimize that. Luckily, injectable Baytril can be given orally, so that usually what I do.

Can you take her to a vet? If not, you might want to start a new thread in the emergancy forum.

Quite a read here! I get my stuff shipped up here to Canada from your country... bottle is white looks legit seems to work. My question is if treating orally a small bird what is the recommended dosage orally? Ask 10 different people and I get 10 different answers but I like the passion I see in this thread I am going to go ahead and say the both of you clearly do research that's the main thing :)

One of my 2 month old chicks has one eyed cold and it is dissipating. I feel like I am kinda guessing what his dosage should be given orally (not in water cause he wasnt really drinking, but seems to be now)

Thank you!

Doses my vet has told me to use are:

10mg/kg twice a day for five days
15mg/kg once a day for five days
20mg/kg once a day for five days

How much do you chicks weigh and do you have the 10% solution?

This is a perfect example of when weight *must* be considered when dosing!

This is my problem I have those instructions right but my chick doesnt weigh a kg Im not even sure if he weighs a pound hard to say... I dont have a digital scale to figure it out. He is an average lean 6 week old cockerel ... I have winged it so far and gave him .25ml x 2 a day

The rest I am also treating as precautionary so I pretty much totalled their overall weight and add it to the water.

.25ml twice a day is a lot! You need to get a kitchen scale and weigh him.

The doses I posted above can also be used this way:
.01ml per 100 grams twice a day
.015ml per 100 grams once a day
.02ml per 100 grams once a day

Make sense? If he is a little less than 1kg he should get no more than .2ml per day. Okay to split that into two .1ml doses, but .25 twice a day is too much.

Thank you Kathy... I agree and for how hard it is to get here and the price it is really just a waste. He appears to be on the mend now. I found him walking around the other day with his eye swollen shut. I immediately jumped the gunn and thought one of the hens attacked him. Then I realized there was no scratch or peck mark and he didn't appear to be in any discomfort at all. He looked like Two-Face Chicken Zombie on one side and cute young roo on the other. I can start to see his eye ball again now and he is crying to get out of quarantine ... I felt bad for him last night so I let him sleep in my lap in the front room watching tv... then I fell asleep as well lol we stayed that way for about 4 hours. Yep I am as sick as the rest of these backyardchicken addicts ... I even have a parrot leash that goes around there leg and they sit on my daughters stroller when we go for our neighborhood walk. My one chick 6 weeks old named Jr loves it he will be sitting on the top of the stroller waiting for me to go making sure I don't pick anyone else.

anyways thanks for the advice :)

I was going to add also my bottles are made by Bayer Im sure you know the one although I didnt notice it in your first post with the pics. That first pic looked like Breaking Bad lab-style made... bathtub batch eew ;-)

We have a flock of egg layers that has slowly diminished from 19 to 12. I have used Corid because the feed store recommended it and then oxytetracycline because that was also recommended. Went to a Vet yesterday and was disappointed in the visit, she does not do flock therapy! Gave me enough Baytril for 3 birds, and said to find more on the internet somewhere. Charge for her "services" $243. So, where do I get Baytril online "somewhere."? Please help.
