BYC Café

Good morning and thanks for the coffee!
DH and I met one of my HS friends and her family for a visit over at our pizza joint last night. It was great seeing them again. They are in CO doing the child to college sports camp and tournament routine, only in the Softball world. Pretty funny how things look and sound similar to what we did.
Cloudy again, maybe some rain. We did not get any yesterday so my car is still pollen infested. The horses all have yellow around their nostrils. I probably would too except for the luxury of a shower! The chickens will feast when the pollen stamens drop from the trees. They love them and I guess it would be a decent source of protein, in the beginning anyway.
Enjoy the day, Cafe!

Good late morning everyone! Thanks for the coffee.

Back in Cape Breton and content again. It’s boiling hot, but that should be over after today (at least we get a little reprieve). The poppies are taking over my flower bed and the snaps are coming nicely. Dahlias putting on some beautiful foliage.

DL, I hope the day is better than what you thought it might be, hugs....
It was!! I found a lot of his clothes down in the "un-labeled" rack. The nursing home said they would refund me whatever I pay to replace what I couldn't find. Now that I know where the laundry is, I'll just take all the replacement stuff down there and have it labeled before I bring it to his room.

DH is eating solid food now and walking a teeny bit better. He still can't get his head up but he was in much better spirits today. I spoke with the social worker and she is texting and calling daily to keep on top of DH going to Vestal Park for his final move.

I took my niece with me and after we did some shopping on the way home, I took her for her very first ever driving lesson. She did good! I insisted that she drive about 1/4 mile down her street and park in the driveway. She was nervous but she did it.

I found a bunch of baby fish in my lotus pot. There must have been eggs clinging to the water lettuce that I tossed in there. I also found 4 baby toads in the settling tank when I opened it to flush the filter. They were about the size of my pinky nail!

I'm about 1/3 of the way up the walls tiling my shower stall. 3x6 tile in a shower stall is painfully slow going!

I seem to be spending a lot of time bent over pulling out weeds for what will be a rather small return in anything edible. Never mind, I'm learning what will grow with minimum fuss in the allotments.
The spinach made reasonable growth but has now bolted. It's just been too hot and the ground is a long way from the fertility needed.
Looks like I'll have good onions and a couple of people have grown a decetn crop of garlic for the first time thanks to the dry weather.
I won't plant leeks again and the courgetes need to go in earlier next year.
Thhis autumn I'll shape the fruit bushes so I can net them to keep the birds off. I don't mind the chickens eating the low growing fruit but the pigeons and crows I can definitely do without.
