I guess my 'worst case scenario' fear, is that one tree falling in the middle of the night right onto the roof over my bed. Not likely, but still.

We have a BIG pin oak in the hedgerow to the West of our house. As of this year it looks like it is dying. Next spring will tell the tale. If it is dead, it has to come down as a lot of our storms come from that direction, and this tree could readily reach our bedroom.

Oh, how I wish y’all were here! I could load you up with sooooo much kindling. I have 2 massive old oaks in my back yard and these last couple hurricanes have absolutely cleaned them out for me! I’ve got more firewood than I need AND I’ve got a storm debris cleaner coming to work the yard today or tomorrow.

Hey! I was thinking that the 5 toed gene trait only passes to the second generation.. i.e., silkie offspring.. My hens all have 5 toes, as their genetics look like this BA/SH (hen) x Silkie (roo), Then I bred them to either BR or BSL (I have two of those hens in with each of my roos). One of my chicks has 5 toes.. very apparent now as they are nearing 3 weeks. So, it passes farther than just the next generation it appears.

Five toes can be very persistent! and is recessive in other breeds so it can pop up

Our friends mother was killed by a tree branch a few years ago after a heavy wet snow. I pay far more attention to the trees then I used to.

Wasn't anything here like y'all get.....10-15, highest gusts hit 20,
tho they were forecasting 50 gusts(weather drama)....I am still a bit 'wind paranoid'.

We have red flag fire warnings and power cut off zones for Wednesday the 14th to Friday. low humidity, high winds and the usual suspects for this time of year

Our friends mother was killed by a tree branch a few years ago after a heavy wet snow. I pay far more attention to the trees then I used to.

I read news stories here about branches and trees falling and either killing or seriously injuring people.

I too am careful under trees in the wind. Oak trees can split in half in the heat here though so wind is not the only thing to worry about

Oh wow, from heat alone? That's crazy.

In a wind storms earlier this year one of our old cottonwoods broke in half about 15' up. When we were picking up branches from the aftermath, what looked like a tree was actually a 4" branch imbedded into the ground

Yes! Usually is is a huge oak tree that is over a hundred years old.

An Oak tree split into several pieces about 10 years ago and smashed my brothers car along with a couple of others at the auto shop he was working at. The temperature was over 115F that day
