BYC Café

You'd be better off starting maybe a week ago and reading through to today. Most of the people who were posting to this thread when it was first started are no longer on the site.

Thanks for this. I hope he gets through this.

I chose him out of the three that hatched strictly based on his personality. I didn't want a white bird and as much as I think his comb and wattles are glorious, I didn't want a bird with them because of the frostbite risk and here we are.
I turned to the first page and found Mtn Margie responding to the King of Fools, talking about how windy it was.

Good morning Cafè. Coffee is ready.

I made progress on the cold air return for the wood stove yesterday. Getting the holes cut through the floor was the hardest (and most nerve wracking) part. I hope to have the system finished and running today. No more fan in my bedroom door all season long!

Huh?
Not following how a fan in the bedroom door functions as a cold air return for a wood stove.
But...Best of cLuck, take pics!

It doesn't. That's the way I've been moving the cold air out of my bedroom down to the hearth room which causes the warm air to circulate back to the bedroom. It's not very efficient and I'm constantly having to maneuver around that fan.
So what I have done is put a register in the master bathroom that then runs along the basement ceiling to discharge at the side of the wood stove. There will be an inline duct fan blowing towards the wood stove. Therefore it will be pulling cold air from the floor starting in my master bedroom suite and pushing it up the side of the hot stove thereby creating an effective circulation pattern pulling the warm air back to the bedroom. I think this technique will keep the house much more comfortable by keeping the hearth room from getting so warm and my bedroom from getting so cold.

After mid 30's yesterday and 28 this morning, I was finally able to fully scrape the boards this morning.

Now that I can get out of the driveway, I sure wish I didn't have to but am plumb out of chook chow.
Might find some treats at the big grocery near t s c and will also grab a cheeseburger on my way home. Enticements get me moving.
