Just in case anyone might want to order from Summerstone Nursery they are spring code for free shipping "springfree".

I ordered some things and got free shipping.

I am going to try to plant in the kiddie pools I had used and are just laying around. I hope to plant strawberries in one and some herbs and a few veggies in another.
I also ordered a Raintree drip kit so that when we are camping I won't have to worry.

I am trying to figure out a way to raise the pools off the ground so I won't have to bend over much as I am needing hip replacement surgery.
I do have some concrete blocks laying around and I was thinking about trying to use them but I was wondering if the pools would be wobbly on blocks.
FYI my experience with Sunnerstone is the prices are low but so is the quality . Under size trees that were mostly dead on arrival . The live ones had to have TLC to make it . Planting in a 5 gallon pot with a good potting mix was what I did to get them started .

Quote: Thanks for the heads up jerryse. I think the only live plant I am getting is a free Rhododendron. I believe the strawberries are coming bare root.If they die I will make them replace the plants that's for sure.

I have some straw that I used in baby rabbit cages that I am planning on putting into the bottom of the pools to fertilize the plants and good potting soil on top of that. I do not have enough 5 gallon buckets to plant in. DH would have a fit if I tried taking his. lol
I saw a really good video on community gardening where they used kiddie pools to plant in. They had tons of plants in those pools and they looked great. I am hoping I can get some to grow. I do have a 4x8 raised bed that DH made me a few years ago. I do love it. It is waist high and I planted some lettuce and tomatoes and a cantaloupe plant that I planted last year is still growing like crazy. All winter I have pulled the leaves off and fed them to the cows and rabbits. lol The plant is thriving.

As long as they don't dry out for an extended period of time they should be fine, the ones sold bare root in bags at big box stores have something like a 2 year guarantee to grow, and they are in bags sitting on store shelves for who knows how long...

Check with some local ethnic grocery stores and see if you can score some disposable produce bins... Almost all the veggies coming in from Mexico and other South of the border countries now come in disposable plastic bins/baskets that are trashed not recycled or sent back... That is what my entire container garden is grown in and it works well, I simply lined with with weed block fabric and filled up... They are not the best quality plastic and I don't expect them to last for years but since they are free I can sacrifice longevity...

Thanks MeepBeep. I will see if I can find some.

I ordered 5 wild plum trees from University of Idaho Pitkin Forest Nursery. I will plant them in 5 gallon buckets till they are large enough to plant in the ground.
I have another plum tree that I hope will do better with these to cross pollinate it.
