I do not believe the privacy settings disable following. I have seen some ugliness generated in threads from people that were stalking a particular poster.

Yes, I got that alert too.

I always expected you to be a "watcher" of my albums. I don't get an alert when someone watches an album but I believe there might be somewhere to see who is watching them.

As far as I know, you can prevent even the people following you from getting it.

They don't, but there are settings that do take away all the features that following a member usually entails, such as seeing their news feed or when they're online. I have all my settings so that people following me can't have an easy-to-find list of exactly where I've been on the site in chronological order and when I've been online.

Goodness. I can't say I've run into that before.
