I hadn't had it for very long and I loved it.

Targeted ads. They track what you search and/or your location and/or listen to you with the mic (unconfirmed but have heard people say that happened) and target the ads to you. You can disable that. I do because I find it creepy but evidently you find it useful!

I should clarify it is not BYC that does this but Google as well as your browser and all major apps/companies. Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, etc.

All of them track everything you do and every website you visit or search term.

Data is big business now.

Sorry to go all rogue/make people paranoid there.

But basically just wanted to say that the usefulness is not random. They are tracking you and targeting ads specifically to you because if you click on it and/or buy something through that link, they make money.

I totally know they listen in.......weird at times.

Recently hubs was asking me to look for new headlights for his specific year make and model of truck......
I had never looked for a single part for it......yet when I started to search Amazon it autofilled his exact truck......


it's no longer just "big brother" that is watching.

OMG that is so creepy!!!

I have my mic and camera disabled on most of my apps. They ask for permission for it and I’m like why would this app need access for that!? To listen to me of course!!! Nope. Didn’t give it to them and the apps still work fine lol I turn it on when I need it and turn it back off. Also disabled location on all of them unless I’m using it and turned off tracking and targeted ads.

Probably doesn’t help much but I can try.

Amazon particularly is notorious for listening in. Never get an Alexa or FireStich or anything like that.

And they had some scandal fairly recently where they accidentally sent a copy of the data from someone’s Alexa to some random person! The scandal was not only that they sent it to someone but also that they were even listening to begin with! They always claimed they don’t but they do.
