I was at that BYC get-together!

Gosh I am so saddened about what's happened to Cheryl's lovely home and her flock and all that horrible business. But that's another tale for another thread.....

I drove to Jeremy's house in Oakland to get my eggs - his little Corgi (in his avatar) is ADORABLE "in person."

I am kinda hoping to someday have a little "Foothills" BYC meet and greet at the house I'm buying, but folks who come have to be lovers of mixed flocks and mutt chickens.

I just like 'em all and haven't gotten into breeding for breed's sake.

Count me in if this happens! I love BYC meet and greets and I love mutt chickens.

Me too..... I pretty much go wherever I am invited that other chicken lovers gather. I belong to the Delta Poultry Meetup group & we do something about once a month. Any of you interested would be welcomed.
Looks like I am having another dismal "Shipped eggs" hatching. 3 so far out of 24 shipped eggs in a 24 hour period..............NOT GOOD!!!!!! At least last time I go 9 out of 24 from the same lady. These were replacement eggs. I started looking for chicks instead this morning. I am better off sticking with local eggs I can pick up.

Yeah, it's been an ongoing bummer for me all season. I do manage to pick up a few chicks as I go along but what a process & expense in time, money & mental energy.
Have I already asked what you have available??? Any hatching eggs & if so what breeds?

right now I have Coronation Sussex, (from Cheryl Cohen) and hopefully in a few months bearded silkies. MAYBE Welsummers...not sure yet.

If you know of anyone local that sells Cochin eggs please let me know. We are looking for a white frizzled Cochin. We had one but it died (long sad story) and my daughter wants another "snowball".

I need some support I have 5 cornish rock cross chickens, I also have my 4 ees that I live. Here is what I need a little support and encouragement for I have to process my rock cross chickens and I have never done that before and I am very nervous and a little scared I might mess up. So

You should be able to get a leaders list from the 4H ofc. at the county extension ofc. There were frizzled cochins at the 4H show at the Turlock Fairgrounds so I am sure they are around in this area. I have a 4H Mom coming over on Tuesday to buy ducks & build a brooder pen. Her daughter Emilee shows White Rocks & Light Sussex but may know who has Frizzled Cochins. I will ask her. Also "Steve" who is a Stanislaus & San Joaquin 4H poultry leader probably knows someone. I can call him. I stopped & called & left a message. You didn't mention Bantam or LF. I am assuming it is bantam but I didn't say in my message to Steve. Frizzled is new to me. I didn't grow up with Frizzled chickens.....LOL. I will let you know if Steve calls back with anyone.

Well you didn't give much info................. Your profile didn't even tell me where you are.....LOL
How soon do you need to do this & are you hoping to be doing it yourself? Yesterday there was a 4H butchering class in Atwater I went to. I hadn't done it since I was young but CowgirlJules did a great job making me feel very comfortable about it & much easier than when I did it with my Vava when I was a youngster. I am eager to try on my own now & have a friend bringing me some chickens. I sold all my extras.......LOL. I am now looking for a traffic cone to be used as my killing cone.
I would like to take this time to Thank Julie sooooooooooooo much for such a great hands on demonstration & let her know I have ordered my Havalon & am eager to get started.
Thanks Jules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Karen, I'm glad you liked it, and I'm glad you came! You can get traffic cones at Home Depot or Lowes, or Safe-T-Lite in Modesto if you're up that way. I know you'll love that knife as much as I do.

Little cacklers, there are so many ways to do it, that I don't know there's much messing up to do. Have you been to the meat birds section? I found this thread in that section extremely helpful when I was gearing up to do it my first time, and there's always someone there willing to answer questions. Homegrown birds are so delicious, it's absolutely worth the hassle. I may do some more this summer myself. Right now I have four left that I'll work at in the evenings this week. I'm still peeling feet from Saturday though.
