DH is getting pretty annoyed at all the teenage singing and I think my "grow out and choose" period is about to come to an end.

I have 4 Black Copper Maran, 1 Birchen Maran, 1 Light Splash LF Cochin, & 2 Bantam White Cochin all crowing (5-7 months.)
Also a handful of Buff and Light Brahmas that are almost 4 months.
And always a few off-color from the Lemon Blue project if you are looking for something different.

Finally got around to putting some of the new aluminum wing ID tags on. I think I am going to really like them. You certainly can't tell at a glance who is who amongst a breed but it is a permanent ID that you can record & always be able to check on. They are easy to do & I only messed up one ( bent it & tossed it) out of a 158 done in the past 2 days. My hope is to do almost all the chickens over 1 month old then as I sell them or cull them delete them off the list on the spreadsheet. I won't bother to tag the meat birds only the keepers. I hope to get to everyone else in the next week but am so far encouraged. I need to write to DOn (Snowbird) & thank him for his recommendation.

My grand daughter didn't turn in her 4H book so isn't showing at all this year. I don't push & she stays so busy with the swim team & cheer eading for the City that she doesn't have alot of free time & I want her to make her own choices. The eader had a showmanship mtg at their home for those that were showing Thursday night but we didn't attend because Oi isn't showing so I don't know all who is showing.

My daughter is showing in the JR show on Thursday morning she is too young for 4-H (she is 7). We are taking 3 to the open show (all Polishes).

Ok the chickens are in...... now what??? They seem ok for the most part, the biggest three( two orpington hens + bar rock roo) tend to hudle in the corner when i come out nearest the door. think they want out but they were not freerange with previous owner. I was planning on keeping them in till sunday when i can keep a good eye on them. any suggestions would be great. i dont even know what i have really. think 2 or 3 are australops and the lady kept saying one was a fryer crossed with a foster farm chicken or something like that. said her friend is trying to make a breed and i just got one of the flunkies i think. Pretty red/brown color though and very nice. The seller had been feeding all of them scratch which i had read was a bad idea. Did I miss something? I bought them Laying crumbles??? They are all about 4 months old she said. Dont think any are laying and the rooster is certianly not crowing( not exactly bummed about that honestly), but I want to make sure they growup right and start producing eggs soon. Any tips will be great. Thanks in advance.

I brought new babies home from the Bay Area today. 4 Ameraucanas from Pips & Peeps blue eggs that I picked up from Cheryl in Lafayette & Jeremy brought me a trio of Wheaten Ameraucanas that lay his nice blue eggs & gave me 6 eggs to start with & then after the girls settled in at home they gave me 2 more....................Cheryl also had 2 English Orpington pullets I got to bring home. I am so excited.
