So sorry to hear about Ruby. My DH culls my birds for me and I go into the house when he does it, too. He doesn't like doing it but he loves me and doesn't want me to have to do it. I will probably get to the point where I can do the culling but that day is not today.

Starting a quail project is exciting! I received 30+ bobwhite quail eggs with my new Hovabator Genesis 1588. I was not planning on ever hatching quail and just expected a few of the shipped eggs to hatch. 19 poppers hatched and they are crazy fun! They are 2 weeks old now and it is difficult to clean their brooder because they can hop completely out of it. We have lost a few over the sides and had to catch them! I have friends asking for quail eggs so I am thinking about getting some cots since they mature faster plus lay such beautiful eggs. I didn't know that there was a health benefit to quail eggs. Do you have a link to that article? Thank you!

I opted to buy the Genesis 1588 with turner because they are decent incubators and a good price at $200 shipped. It holds up to 41 chicken eggs and up to 120 quail eggs. But as soon as I started my first hatch, I wish that I had bought a Brinsea Octagon 40 with humidity pump or a Rcom Max 50. I have had 2 good hatches with the Genesis but the humidity reading was off and I had to mess with it. Of course, I dream of having a Brinsea cabinet incubator like Deb has!

Here is one link that shows how the high Vitamin D & antioxidant value helps fight cancer. There are lots of articles, but they all kinda point to the same thing.

We had another busy day yesterday!

I was very tired last night and went to bed on time. The wind and allergies always get me, especially this time of the year...

We did not make the top ten busiest threads but Mossyoakfarm made # 10 for ovation! I made it to the list for cooking advice! (that always cracks me up..I do love to cook and bake though) My Mom should be very proud. I took my pressure cooker up to her place near Shingletown a couple of summers ago and made Beef ribs in it. The ribs are pressure cooked and then grilled on a BBQ. She was very impressed by the process.

Wow.....I actually made a list?
I can't believe it!.....LOL

Two have hatched so far. 5 more have pipped and 2 still totally alive but not pipped yet- slow pokes.

Congratulations Amy Beth.

Still waiting on my own duck eggs. I put the first six call eggs into the incubator and just pulled them all as clears. I have more over the next two hatches, hopefully my guys are going to put two and two together and get with it.

And everyday, I watch the mandarin drake nuzzle the neck of his lady love, chasing off the rest of the ducks. I am SO ready for them to move it to the nest box!
