California - Northern

In the "In the shell" chicken news...there isn't any, no rocking rolling or peeping. I haven't given up it's only day 20 but I feel right now that anything that does hatch will be a happy surprise.

In, the "In the mail" chicken news My hatchery girls are coming. I was on Deanne's page yesterday and I saw what was there about sexing birds at the hatchery. It's awful....I won't order sexed pullets again unless they are auto sexing...but I am happy to be welcoming these new little girls home this one last time.

In out of the shell chicken news I think Ray is dying

His comb flopped over the weekend, his crow was hoarse a few days ago and he has slept in the nest box the last 4 nights like he is too sore to get up on the roost. I had to lift him out of the coop this morning because he was just sitting there. Normally he likes to start his day by chasing the girls around and trying to get a little action but he just sort of stood there. I think his age and the ferocity of his frequent peacock fights are getting to him.

He was rehomed to my uncle 10+ years ago then rehomed to me this fall and he is such a good boy. He is a gentle caretaking guardian and I am sad.

Trisha happy for you with your new babies! That's wonderful. The full moon always keeps me up too.
So sorry to hear Ray is not well. I think 10+ is pretty old for a chicken but it's never easy to loose one.

I just have young easter eggers though I did set the silver which I am gonna keep , but also some olive eggers from my blue ameraucana hen and white empordanesa rooster all the chicks I have hatched here have beards and muffs. You would get olive / green eggs out of the first cross that are pea combed and maybe from the straight combs too.
Chickee might have more of her cool special easter eggers that would fit your need.
Jerry Segler is who I got them from. he is on the ameraucana thread to and has been working on them for years
cute
The three silvers that survived from the order ChickNmamma and I got from John Blehm appear to be a trio, YAY. It will be interesting to compare them with yours. Very pretty 8 week old chicks right now, they are smaller than the lav. splits I have that are same age. I anxiously await your hatch!

. You have given Ray a happy life and I'm sure that he appreciates it. Not many roosters get to live that long. I know it is so sad to say good bye to a loved pet.

Was there a discussion on here about picking up chicks at a distribution center? Refresh my memory, please.

There have been too many cute pictures to multi quote.

Debi, I still have trouble believing you are a grandmother, you look too young!

Loved that apron!

I adore several of Deb's birds, but have to say that black bare butt chick is an exception!

IF you get the tracking number and can get ahold of a Postmaster they can tell you exactly where the shipment is. You then go to the Distribution center and get the chicks. USPS has changed the name of the centers. Their website has contact information for each center so you should call ahead to let them know you are coming.

Do you have a shipment coming from Missouri?

Ron

I don't want to shame people for their choices, so I just tell people how wonderful it is when the are not doing it.
I think that is an excellent way of handling it.
I'm so sorry. Ten years is old in chicken years, he had a good run. I'm sorry I didn't know what to any about the floppy comb. I was just thinking this morning about ray and wondering if he was OK, now this

.

I'm too chicken to go into hatcher stuff with people unless they ask. Its horrible.

So sorry to hear about Ray. He is a gorgeous boy!

It sounds like your family has given him a great home and a lovely life. I am sorry to hear he isn't feeling well.
Thanks for all the the thoughts about old Ray...I really had no idea how long a rooster lives and it is good to know his life has been long. I will be roosterless and I don't want to be. Now don't you all start bringing me your extras yet but there is a chance I may have room for a couple.

Looking to buy packing supplies in bulk. I'm looking for the small bubble wrap for the eggs. Anyone know where to get it at a good price?
I have purchased bubble wrap on eBay from the following 2 sellers:

http://stores.ebay.com/UPAKNSHIP

http://stores.ebay.com/AAABOXMAN-HOUSTON-TEXAS

The first seller is in California and has very quick shipping. The second one is in Texas and also ships quickly. I have purchased shipping supplies from both of them multiple times and been very pleased with both service & product.

I love you! You made my day! I actually have 4 grandkids and these are the 2 youngest. They are 2, 4, 6, and 8 years old. I just started watching the 2 youngest ones 16 days out of the month. I sure feel my age at the end of a 12 hour day with them!
