California - Northern

sorry Ron
it is snowing hard and sticking here.
30 degrees is what the thermometer says
Over 5 inches here, supposed to keep snowing tonight. I got a great phone call earlier today, they are postponing the bazaar I was supposed to do tomorrow until next week. Gives me time to get more jams made anyway.

We have snowies!!!! Grandma keeps bugging me to heat the coop... but she also said the goats can "lick the ice in the bucket and get enough moisture". I'm gonna stick with you're guys' advice.

Hey, what do you guys use to keep your waterers un-frozen?

I have had to go out and break the ice the last couple of mornings. I have been turning the girls out after their morning Fermented Feed and we have a pond they drink out of. It doesn't freeze because the pump keeps the water circulating.

They are all so pretty thank you for posting them. I wouldn't mind OE girls if you end up selling them, And those silkies too, yowza! Are you getting snow yet? I am getting slush at 900' and 38degrees.
Once the chicks have feathered in, so I have a better idea if they are off colored Marans or OEs, I will be selling them. I am going to set some eggs from my blue wheaten Ameraucana pullet and those chicks will be OEs and/or pure Ameraucanas. She was in with both roosters. I am not sure yet on the Silkies. I have 4 keepers out of the 9 picked out right now and a rooster promised. I will let you know which ones I decide to part with once they are a couple of months older

We are getting light snow here. Not really measurable even so far. I talked with my granddaughter in Grass Valley and she said it was snowing heavy there.

Electric tea kettle. It takes care of the ice and gives the birds a warm drink in the cold mornings.

I empty my waterers every night and haul warm water out to fill them each morning. The chickens appreciate the warm water when they are cold.
