Hello,
frow.gif
I recently joined BYC and was directed to this thread by Cooper12 - got caught by those chick pictures of the Arkansas Blues - had to read that whole thread.. they are such cute chicks!

I live above Jackson, CA and I WISH I could have peacocks! My mother has some and keeps telling me she can give me one or two - but I think the peacock call might scare the neighborhood - it sounds like a baby crying or somebody calling for help.. and it is very loud. I have 9 roosters already - the neighbors are being very nice when they go into crowing contests. I do know that peafowl don't bother the chickens at all - but keep them away from GEESE! If you want a funny goose vs peacock story .. let me know - its a real story and I was there to see it!
Welcome to the thread, we're glad you joined in!

Zoowee-- I have a question, how do you get such GREAT photos of your chickens?? Mine are always moving their heads or blinking!!

like Deann, this is good to know... my chicken-keeping neighbor might actually be interested in adopting a few peafowl (we could then blame each other for the noise, if anyone else complains -- we both like the sound of peacock calls), so chiqita, you might have some takers if/when the time comes!
I think you both need a dozen each, however, 2 is not enough. Or trios, gotta keep those boys displaying!

I will let her know and try adn find out what types of peas they are, and if she has pairs. Or what she knows, She may not know a lot, I think she was surprised I could help, ha.
Well, ok....

My mom lived up in Lake County and had her assortment of farm animals: peacocks, chickens, geese, sheep, ostrich..

Anyway - the Peacock and the male goose were always at war.  The peacock would come into the animal area after free ranging to get the chicken food and the goose always chased him off.  The peacock would fly off into a tree and the goose would stand there complaining.

One day, when I was there, the goose did a sneak attach from behind the peacock when he was spreading out his tail - and caught the peacock by his rear end.   Not exactly sure where - maybe a rear thigh area.  The peacock then took off into flight, dragging the surprised goose behind him - both flapping frantically.  The peacock ended up in a tree after dropping the goose to the ground from about 10 feet in the air.  It was quite a comical sight, that goose was too heavy to fly well.  The goose never tried to get the peacock after that - and the peacock always kept an eye out for that goose.

That is an interesting visual. My neighbors are all very kind about my roosters here, mostly because the farm behind us ( HOW there is a farm 7 miles from downtown don't ask me, its all weird special zoning grandfathered in around here) used to have peas and geese that could fly over the creek . They used to roost on teh roofs of the houses on teh other side and poop and call. My right next door neighbor can go on for hours about peacock poop. My promise we were not getting any went a loong way to cementing friendship, lol.
No geese, no ducks no peas, only baby guineas!

At least the turkeys don't bother anyone!

And welcome to the thread.

Cooper, I was reading the reals estate daily news this morning for our area and 4 houses went into contract and 4 more went out in our zipcode. It made me glad again you got your house!

Zoo, those photos are amazing.
Missmolly, i"m so jealous! I just started with lights on the silkies, going to oe's next and Cl's next. Still no eggs, however, maybe next week. everyone is going to get New years baking late if it keeps up.

Writing about that is making me miss Louie again. He was such a great rooster. Orlando has beensemi free raninging ( im locking them on the top during the day so they can hide on the porch, no animals come into the front side yard. ) and trying to take over his place in the layer flock, he dosn't go over great with the big girls, lol. They are still sad too.

Have to share this sign my daughter got me for Christmas! I said I wanted some chicken stuff to hang on my coops but I think this one will go in my store to advertise my eggs. The other sign is for Rooster Brand Coffee and shows a rooster crowing and says "Wake the Hell Up!"!
