How do you like my wonderful shipped eggs?

These came a year ago from "The" top breeder of Wyandottes! The eggs were wrapped in paper towels and put in a foam insulated box. Problem is that there wasn't any padding between the eggs and they hit against each other and broke. Desperate to try and get some partridge Wyandotte chicks out of these eggs I incubated a couple that weren't broken and one grew but didn't hatch. It had only one eye and a horribly crossed beak!

Good thing it didn't hatch!! Now I know better than to try and incubate eggs that have had stinky, rotten egg yoke all over them!! The breeder did refund me my money.
Now that's probably the worst I've seen.

I ship my eggs how I'd like to receive them.

How disappointing! I wonder if they really WERE Brabanter eggs or if the seller stuck some from Safeway in a box and mailed those. Seems like eggs from a rare breed like that would be better protected by those who breed them....but maybe I am naive'

Ron are you getting the Horstman eggs?? I was in contact with him but am glad now that I went with others. Chookschick has great feedback on ebay but I don't think my other seller...Bethbug has an ebay record...if she does I didn't find it. If anyone has anything negative to say about either please don't tell me. I can't spend the next three weeks fretting about what might or might not be. I would like to remain in denial as well as naive thanks

Yes, very disappointing. I also ordered a doz. Pyncheon eggs at the same time and they too were scrambled, but I did manage to hatch one chicks and she was indeed a Pyncheon. I am thrilled she was a girl. I named her Chia. She is a super sweet bird and I am glad to have her.

Here is a picture of her

Here is a picture of the Pyncheon I hatched. Her name is Chia and she is awesome. Super friendly.

That Pyncheon is adorable!! Now I want some of those! I have really fallen for the bantams this past year and plan to have a pen just for pet bantams of all kinds. That way I can have lots of beautiful roosters, which are my favorites!

Oh disgusting does not even begin to describe that box! Did you get your money back?
I wrote him and sent him a pictures, and offered to pay for shipping thinking this was the only way I would be able to get more eggs. He sent me more eggs, but I am almost 100% sure those were store bought eggs as they looked completely different from the first batch and had no bloom. As suspected, every since egg was clear with no sign of fertility. I did not even bother to write him again and wrote it off as a lesson learned.

Wow, LOTS of Holiday's listed there!

Maybe we should work out a trade - you do live in the wine country.

We seriously need to have a meet up closer than the Bay Area this year.
Yesterday on my jaunt, I picked up my last three (yes, three!) wine club selections from Bella Piazza Winery. I just haven't gone that way AND thought about 'em for months. Opened a bottle of Stellina last night and will finish it today and this evening, I think. The other five bottles will "rest" until I have company or another good reason to divest myself of them. Got a couple bottles of Helwig wines, too.

I think we definitely need a BYC Foothills Get-Together this year!

Ummm, I started with the idea of "Christmas lists" and thought, No, too far away!

Yes they are a month old! Amy Beth has them so hopefully she will post some pictures for us!

I hatched them to help Wisher learn how to ship. She is learning a bunch too!

Nearly all the black chicks are outside with Betty. Some of the EEs are already gone (boys I rehomed) and I couple more boys I need to rehome this weekend from that batch. I will get some pics of them before I ship them off to new homes.

It is surprising how easy it is to wrap and ship eggs. There really is no excuse for this kind of damage. What I find most interesting is that this breeder invested in a cooler, which could have been a great idea, but then neglected to protect the eggs.

The best shipping job I have ever seen is from James Meeks from Skyline. His style of packing is often referred to as the Meeks Method, and it really works. I adopted this method for shipping eggs and I know alot of other breeders have too.

If you are not familiar with the Meeks Method, James has a good description on his site at: skylinepoultry.com

Here are a couple of pictures I took of the way I roll my eggs. Once rolled, stand them up in the box big egg up. I can assure you, eggs arrived un-broken 99.9% of the time. Also, since the eggs are standing big end up there is little chance the air sack will break unless the PO plays football with the box.

Can someone please explain to me WHY it feels like it takes my next payday to get here and eggs to hatch twice the time it really is?

Hurry up already!!!!
