California - Northern

Believe me, I thought about it. The "styrobators" could have been easily carried outside, it was 100 degrees plus. The ducklings would have been fine, but the BIG cabinet full of eggs can't be moved and believe me, I was hoping the power would be back on before the house reached 99-100 degrees. Yikes!

Cheap entertainent for the neighbors, back and forth......... Nothing I do over here surprises mine anymore, unless I've added something new.

Really, in this heat does a newbie to this chicken fun need to have lights on chicks? ( 5 days young) I have fans on them? It HOT in the shop. 15 young ones go thought two quarts of water a day.
Yes, they do not need heat in the day. at night they might though.

I use an ecoglow and the babies did not use it at all today.

I may see about ordering some eggs that I will hatch out during our county fair. If we get a break from the heat for shipping. I've still got a couple of weeks to wait.

I found new gnawing on the feed bins this morning, traps baited, fingers crossed.

No, they do not need a heat lamp on them in this heat. Leave it off during the day. You can put a lower wattage light bulb (like 75-100 watts)in it to keep the temp reasonable at night. It's not good to overheat them, they won't make it.

At 5 days I have my broody box at 90°, they are to young to generate their own heat and I don't want them crowding together so tight that anyone gets crushed. Is you shop staying 90° all night?

Thank you . looking okay just got a little worried there peeping all over the place so I guess every thing is all right.
