Fluffy yellow. Why?

reddish is an indication of the chick being a pullet. Black and white barring coming in on the feathers is an indication of a Cockerel.

Comb and wattles usually happen at six weeks or so.

I hope you have a pullet!

This is a followup to the Production Red compared to a Standard Bred(Heritage) Cockerel:

Roy (the Rir) is excited in this photo normally he wouldn't have such a high tail angle. What angle should there tail be?

Quote from NY Reds:

Tail angle should be 20 degrees above horizontal & no, that black is not desireable & it won't be going anywhere. None of that really matters as this bird isn't the type of Red this thread is dedicated to. He's a Production bred Red totally lacking in proper Red type.

Godiva has it in her head that she wants to go broody now.

Tom says to let her try so if she sticks for another day or two I will give her some of our eggs. I think I will go with 5 and 4 Dell and CA Grey. Both roos have access to all the girls at this point so I will get either Dels or more like the little black chick from this hatch or red or black sex links. IF she sticks.

mainly curiosity on my part. I've seen very few basque chicks but in my first hatch I remember a few being almost neon yellow. I think they are the ones crowing now.

I also hope you get a girl.

I have read that hanging a mirror can help them not be lonely too.

It is a hard time to find brooder mates.

I just saw this link from Kings Feed on FB this morning. King Feed's formulation director claims that after 7 days of feeding your chickens GMO free feed, their eggs will be GMO free.

I enjoy a good scientific read and would like to find a study that supports this statement. I'm the kind of person who asks, "Who is making this statement and where is the data to support their claim?"
