How do you guys refill the water trays in the Gensis 1588? I had to take out the turner/eggs because I couldn't see the trays otherwise. Since my table isn't big enough to hold both the Gensis AND the turner(just a small little table that it's setting on) I had to balance the turner on the edge of the Gensis, and that's a bit dangerous for the eggs. I don't want to have to do that again, but without taking out the turner I can't see how full the water tray is, even when shining a light in it.
I have nothing nice to say about those trays. I use a cup with water until hatch and then either use sponge or a plate with water depending on my humidity requirements

If Jeff doesn't pan out for you, JustStruttin (Deann) has them as well. She's in Novato though.
Thanks for the Shout Out but I no longer raise SFH. I have cut way back on the number of breeds I raise. I am down to Polish, Breese Basque, Orpingtons and Sulmtalers, plus a Freedom Ranger X project.

be extra careful your chickens don't pass stuff on if you have local quail.
When I say they have been hanging around my home Its only because Ive spotted them around 3 times in the last 2 weeks. They have been in the front yard mostly I have never seen them in my back yard at all.

All my chickens have discovered they like Watermelon as I gave some to the guys in the brooder this weekend. Even the fosters, which have been pretty skittish to date, have started to look for the handout.

I switched over to nipple water in my brooder box this weekend but really cannot tell yet if they have learned to use them. The coke bottle in bike water bottle holder works really nicely.

I piked up some drain pipe to make a couple of PetRocks pipe feeders for the new coop and am having a hard time believing that they do not make a 40 degree elbow for 3" pipe. (Couldnt find it at Home Depot but they had it for 4" pipe which is not the same)

So i hage a problem. i found an egg that had been pecked opeb and eaten how do i stop this

There are lots of tips like putting in ceramic eggs to trick them into thinking they can't peck them open any more, filling an gg with mustard, etc. I haven't seen anything work better than increasing protein and calcium in their diets.
It was just too hard to not take a peek. I even took a peek into the eggs again today when I was refilling the water tray. Could not help myself. So far it looks like 5 of my Trader Joe's eggs are developing! The white eggs are easy to do quick peeks into because they don't have to be touched or moved.
Don't make me reach through the computer and smack your hands!

I'm sure I'll be the model of self-restrain when I have my incubator running (I might have my fingers crossed).

A cup with water is a good idea. Thanks!

Hehe, you know you're going to be just as bad as me! I think it'll be easier to restrain myself after I have done a hatch or two, it's just SO exciting the first time!
Every addict feels the same way.

How long can the power safely be out without my eggs getting too cold? We have solar being installed and they have had the power off for 10 minutes already...They said only 15 minutes but you know how that goes.

That is a good idea. Hmmm...I don't think so, I mean I don't have another pen. I wish I did!

Just collect your white eggs every day and date them. On day four after setting, peek with your flashlight. If one has veining you know it's the Tolbunt, anything else collected on the same day should be clear and it can be tossed to make room in your incubator. Like I said, with the white Polish eggs you can always see the veining on day four. I'll admit, I can usually even tell on day two but I didn't want to make your candling habit even worse!

I always leave the spot in the turner directly under the vent hole empty. Then I went to the feed store and bought the biggest syringe barrel they had (you don't need the actual needle). It probably holds close to a 1/4 cup of water. I suck up the water I want to add with the syringe barrel, then just squirt it into the vent hole. If you direct the squirt, you can usually hit more than one fill area under the turner if you need the humidity even higher. You can use a turkey baster, but you have to be careful, when you turn them over the water will run out all over. With the syringe, it stays inside until you push the plunger.
