That is a good idea. Hmmm...I don't think so, I mean I don't have another pen. I wish I did!
Just collect your white eggs every day and date them. On day four after setting, peek with your flashlight. If one has veining you know it's the Tolbunt, anything else collected on the same day should be clear and it can be tossed to make room in your incubator. Like I said, with the white Polish eggs you can always see the veining on day four. I'll admit, I can usually even tell on day two but I didn't want to make your candling habit even worse!
How do you guys refill the water trays in the Gensis 1588? I had to take out the turner/eggs because I couldn't see the trays otherwise. Since my table isn't big enough to hold both the Gensis AND the turner(just a small little table that it's setting on) I had to balance the turner on the edge of the Gensis, and that's a bit dangerous for the eggs. I don't want to have to do that again, but without taking out the turner I can't see how full the water tray is, even when shining a light in it.
I always leave the spot in the turner directly under the vent hole empty. Then I went to the feed store and bought the biggest syringe barrel they had (you don't need the actual needle). It probably holds close to a 1/4 cup of water. I suck up the water I want to add with the syringe barrel, then just squirt it into the vent hole. If you direct the squirt, you can usually hit more than one fill area under the turner if you need the humidity even higher. You can use a turkey baster, but you have to be careful, when you turn them over the water will run out all over. With the syringe, it stays inside until you push the plunger.
