Californians **Beware!!! Newcastle Outbreak**

I check the site daily, but I'd like to sign up for those emails. I'm several hundred miles from where those outbreaks are occurring, but still....

Hubby and I plan to move the chickens into the garage if it comes closer. But at this point, I'm more afraid of the CDFA officials than I am the virus. That will change if there are defections detections closer to home...

We have friends from CA who are in the middle of the Newcastle outbreak. They don't have poultry, but could they still bring the disease with them when they come to visit us?
If they visit another poultry owner that has VND, yes they can. They can step on dried feces and carry it on their shoes when they visit you.

Just for perspective for non-Californians...

I live in Northern Califirnia, some 500 miles from the majority of the outbreaks. That's about the same distance between New York and Ohio. I know that it doesn't change the fact that my birds are at risk, but I have gotten a lot of messages from folx giving me warnings and asking if NorCal birds are close to the quarantine/euthanasia zones. Cali is a looooong state.
