Calling all APA and/or ABA breeders!

I started breeding Araucanas spring of 2019. I do breed towards the Standard...really just trying to maintain the standard. I was blessed to have bought out a retiring Araucana breeder and exhibitor who raised these birds for almost 30 years. Needless to say, her culling for all those years has left me with little work to do. My fertility is off the charts and the chicks are extremely vigorous. Knock on wood, I haven't even hatched anything with a partial tail which I don't think any other Araucana breeder can say. To make things challenging I am trying to start a white line out of a random white cockerel I hatched last summer from my BBR pen. I'm also trying to start a golden duckwing line from the same pair.

This was to be my first year showing. I was also registered for classes to be an NPIP tester, however the Covid crap put an end to that. Our state show is still on for October, so hopefully it won't be cancelled as I have a nice, double tufted white pullet I'd like to show.

Here are some of the chicks I have bred and hatched the past two years:

Wow, the one black pullet is really nice. Your first show being canceled is awful.
You have really good quality, which isn't super common among Araucanas, and I'm surprised you have good fertility. Some breeds (including the Ameraucana) I've given up on because of vitality. The Ameraucanas are kind of common anyways and may be interesting aesthetically, but aren't that interesting personality-wise, in my opinion.

Araucanas have very unique personalities and mannerisms. They seem to have a strong family unit. I've experienced pair bonding in my blues. Every single hen I've owned has gone broody. The ones I have let set are awesome mothers and I've never had one quit on a nest or chicks. They don't wean their chicks...the chicks eventually take off on their own. And the cocks and cockerels are absolutely amazing! I have yet to have an aggressive male. The cockbirds help raise the chicks and I have two that will build the hens' nests and sit with them while they lay. I originally got into Araucanas because I like the rumpless look, but I will stick with them because of their personalities and strong nature instincts.

Sounds like my Anconas. Every one of them wants to go broody.

Thanks for the picturesYour aracaunas are beautiful!! That blue color especially, the lacing is perfect on them. Have you had to breed out any of that brown tinge that they’ll get sometimes?
I’m sorry to hear your first show got cancelled, The season starts here pretty much in October as well, there’s three shows in that month so fingers crossed this covid crap is over by October:fl

I do. My colors are mille fleur and porcelain.

I was there when Michelle Sepiol's porcelain d'Uccle won show champion in Bath, NY a few years ago. This was absolutely the most beautiful porcelain d'Uccle I have ever seen!
Hi,
Any pictures?
X2!! I’ll post some of mine if you do :)

I am not a breeder yet, but if/when I get into it, I want to breed Ameracunas, NHRs, and I really want to breed nakin bamtams. Right now my cockerel is a Leghorn, and I have buff Orphington pullets, PR pullets, a black sex links, OE, and white leghorn, all pullets. I really want to breed my cock with my Buff Orphingtons, especially one named Hazel, because while chickens are smart, Tino and Hazel are not, so I want their chick.

I also have a blind Amberlink pullet with 2 chickens, a silver laced Wyandotte, and light Brahma. I'm pretty sure the Brahma is a cockerl, carries itself very upright.

That Leghorn is so cute... and so white! So clean! How ever did you manage it?
And he seems really sweet. The Leghorns I have can’t stand being in the same room as me.
