I started breeding Araucanas spring of 2019. I do breed towards the Standard...really just trying to maintain the standard. I was blessed to have bought out a retiring Araucana breeder and exhibitor who raised these birds for almost 30 years. Needless to say, her culling for all those years has left me with little work to do. My fertility is off the charts and the chicks are extremely vigorous. Knock on wood, I haven't even hatched anything with a partial tail which I don't think any other Araucana breeder can say. To make things challenging I am trying to start a white line out of a random white cockerel I hatched last summer from my BBR pen. I'm also trying to start a golden duckwing line from the same pair.
This was to be my first year showing. I was also registered for classes to be an NPIP tester, however the Covid crap put an end to that. Our state show is still on for October, so hopefully it won't be cancelled as I have a nice, double tufted white pullet I'd like to show.
