Oh no you better not be going making 'healthy' food for ducks for gazzilion dollars like 'Super food grains with a rosemary-thyme sauce with a good-for-the-evironment-insect-burger with a hint of basil-oil, complimented by a biological salad of greens like kale, butter-lettuce, tiny broccoli, purple brusselsprouts with a lavender-basil-pinenutoil dressing?'

I love that idea. I've got tons of thyme and oregano and lemon balm that I could harvest right now and I think I will put some in their pen and food tomorrow! What about rosemary? I've got a big plant but I wonder if it's ok for ducks?
Rosemary can help with pain, respiratory and pest control. I throw in a few fresh sprigs every now and then. I don't see where they eat any but they do move it around. I think it makes me feel better knowing that they have a variety of fun yummy herbs on hand lol. As for the passion flower I have used that and the lavender and lemon balm on Loo many times. She has bad anxiety and can be a brat throwing fits when she gets locked up sometimes. So I toss in a few pinches of each in their water tub and she seems to quiet down. It could be from the herbs or because it gave her something to do. I save lavender flower and the greens. So I can share different kinds of the plants with them. They also get marigold. It is a realitive to calandula. Very healing herb for injuries and such. And also listed in some of the chicken nesting herbs for sale.

I've tried and tried to grow lavender totally without any success whatsoever. Maybe it's my climate? IDK but I'm going to start putting some of the herbs I can grown in their drinking water today. I'd like to put some in their pool but last night after a cleaning of it they got in and before I could get them in their pen the pool looked as bad as before I cleaned it!

Laverder I gather and harvest from a clients property, I have had no luck as well lol. It is the toughest herb to grow for me here. When I throw herbs to them it's usually I'm their herb tub which is a cheap kitty litter pan 1/2 full of water. Lily likes to bathe in it. I use a sub pump to empty thier pond so it could clog that, maybe.
I also like to use spearmint and peppermint, I alternate a mix.

I will try to grow a large patch of Marigold (Tagetes) this year, i have read somewhere (maybe in BYC) that when the birds eat the flowers - and my ducks went crazy for those - the yolks will have a deeper orange/yellow color and taste even yummier…
Interesting and good to know. Marigolds can also be used as a pest control while encouraging bees. Here they are very hardy in the hot summers.

I have used herbs for my girls Lily and Loo since they were about 12 weeks old. I am a gardener by profession and have several herbs dried and jarred in the ducks over night room. I am no expert but have researched herbs for years. Passion flower for example is natural Zanax. Calming and helps with anxiety and rest. Same as Lavender and even Lemon blam.Thyme and Oregano are natural antibiotics. So many times pending on their mood or mine lol I may toss in herbs to their water tub or dry onto their bedding. I have noticed Lily likes to move it to her nest and place the herbs around her eggs. So cute. They do enjoy a variety somedays. I even colect rose pedals and dry those and toss in for fun. They love them. Just make sure no pesticides are ever used. And always use small amount to test first to see how your birds react.
I am new to having ducks, but I recently gave mine some parsley and they spit it out right away lol. I was wondering why but I guess they aren't used to the strong flavor... I also gave them Monte Carlo(a cousin of romaine) but they also spit it out. I think they like the weeds (dandelions, clover, etc.) more... they are 8 weeks old however but they are very picky! They only pick at their chicken starter and don't like any herbs. They do try to eat it, but usually chews and lets it fall out. Idk but I think that it would be a total waste of money if you bought this and your ducks don't like it.
