did the first one have a lack of motivation to hatch?
From what I gather they start tapping on the shell during lockdown and signal one another how far along they are to then theoretically hatch within a day. Chirping will encourage them but it won't discourage them , the only thing you need to be worried about is not letting the incubator dry out which opening it will do so do it fast.

Some like to wait till you have two to remove at the same time to stop the first being lonely - up to you, I don't think it will matter either way

Ok, I will keep that in mind for next time
Eggs are currently day 20, 2 pips
Two duds, one I dropped, and 4 that made it to lockdown
That's the way we learn, by doing and making mistakes. Experience can't be Googled, as they say! Hope your hatch goes well with the remaining chicks!

ok thank you! I've read some thread saying that taking the chick out will discourage the other chicks, is this true? I don't want them to lose motivation for hatching :lau
I would remove that beautiful little baby. It won't really motivate them much more than the other eggs motivate each other. The communicate by peeping and clicking, so if there's any other alive eggs in there, they are already communicating with each other. I think it would be a good idea to move the baby so he doesn't mess with the other eggs too much. He won't hurt them, but you don't want him pooping all over them.

ok, I got him out!
he's sleeping under the heat
his name is Huckleberry!
Here is a picture of the cutie pie
