How did you determine that it is a female now? Did it lay an egg? Because I'm fairly certain it was male....

I went to the poultry store where I got him/her to talk to the owner I showed him pictures and he said it was a hen. Below me I was pretty certain too he was a male. I have one Silkie rooster who’s the only one that’s started crowing, KUrt (the Cornish x) Never crows but he does make a lot of cluck-click noises. So putting that and what the owner told me I figured OK hes not a boy he’s a girl? (as I scratch my head lol) No egg yet.

That is absolutely no evidence, in my opinion. If he lives long enough, he will crow.

I know this question has been asked before, but I was thinking about raising a cornish cross as a pet/laying hen. I know they get big really fast but I was wondering if I raised it on regular chick starter and eventually regular laying hen food, would it turn out just fine? I would definitely keep an eye on her weight but does this sound like an ok idea. Do you think she would live as long as regular hens like over 10+ years, possibly 20? Would she get along with my regular laying hens?

Do you have a particular reason for wanting to run this experiment?

We have one of four left. Two made it to 5 mos. One to 5.5 mos.
Then there's Miss Reese.
Miss Reese is now 6.5 mos and going strong.
She runs and jumps, loves to forage, is our best Layer and everyone's favorite snuggler.
Of course she can't get up on the roost with the others, but she gets into nesting boxes just fine.
Of course we bathe her every 10 days or so.
Warm water helps her sore feet as well as cleaners her belly.
She's got full plumage still, with attitude to match.View attachment 1488203 Baths are exhausting...lol

How is she now

Cornish X make fine pets. They lay a nice big light brown egg. They just do not live very long. You can increase their lifespan by making them exercise and restricting their feed but that doesn't sound like much fun for the chicken.
