The only things I have against that bill is the no communication devices while using a tractor. Against animal auctions, manure pit, timber, feed lots, stock yards and silos. Under 16 not being able to harvest, cure, or cultivate tobacco.

I do not know what silos look like on the inside. Just thought it was a big storage area. Didn't know they had "elevators" and things to get stuck in. But like any job there is you require training. I don't get a job at a restaurant then immediately use the grill.

Elevator is what large grain storage areas are called. I believe, most of deaths associated with elevators involve drowning in the grain. The other cause of death is grain elevators is due to explosions. Grain dust, in poorly maintained elevators, is explosive, and can kill.

Based on the statistics that moms' follys' sources stated about deaths/injuries here is what I have found.

.01% of kids who work on a farm will die from fatal accident.

1.7% will get injured

.05% will suffer a permanent disability.

5.8% of people including the ones who don't live on a farm will get injured every year.

But here is the kicker. Children under the age of 16 only account for 20% of these deaths/injuries.

My first jobs were working on a farm. I suffered one injury, and a friend suffered another. Neither were serious, but both could have been. I was 12, my friend about 14. I fell off a loaded hay wagon on the way from the field to the barn. I had some serious road rash on my face, and a concussion. My friend put a pitch fork through her foot; one tine, all the way through.

Is that supposed to show why farm work is dangerous? sheesh...are you joking?

I am pretty sure "farming vehicles" means 4 wheelers, kubutos, etc....not just large and scary tractors.​

This was just a simple answer to a question, "how many kids die?", and a story from my own life.

The simple answer is about 300 kids a year.

This "study" includes deaths from riding in the bed of pickup trucks, fire deaths, drowning, rural motor vehicle fatalities, children under the age of 6 (employed?) and snowmobile accidents.

The discerning reader will note that none of these studies say anything about the "big factory farms" that the new legislation. as some would have us believe is purported to protect young farm workers from.

Was this on a big factory farm? Even if it was is that any reason to ban children from working on a farm and learning the trade?​

I went to work when I was ten on my dad's farm and helping in his land surveying business. I got hurt a few times, only remember having to go get stitches once. Thought a bull had me killed me one day, I still think it's a wonder he didn't.

Somehow It seems different to me if your dad or grandpa is there to look out for you as opposed to just working for somebody.

i think it is one of those cases where you can make the numbers say what you want. If a 4 year old gets run over on a farm then it's a work place accident, but if a 4 year old gets run over playing in the drive way it's a home accident. As the one site said the accidents peak at 4 year old's and 14 year old's. now how much does a 4 year old get payed ?
