Charcoal W/E Peacock

Okay,it would seem "Kingsford" here has a double copy of the white eye gene.If he is bred to a hen showing w/e characteristics such as scattered white feathers across her back (assuming she has 1 copy) all offspring will be w/e? If hens have only 1 copy,and he has 2,will all offspring have 2 copies resulting in all w/e chicks? If he's bred with hen with no w/e,,those chicks will only have 1 copy?

His parents have produced pied, to date no whites.

What about the charcoal w/e I got from you deerman? I bred him to your IB split to charcoal hen and got 4 whites, 3 charcoal (1 male for sure), some pieds and a couple IB w/e. One or more of the whites could be a charcoal male?

you got some of my spalding split charcoal hens ,some were split white some split pied....you hit the jack pot...i also hatched charcoal and white from those birds...he is not dark pied...but split to pied or white....if i remember right think white.

here are your chicks

1. spalding pied split charcoal
2. spalding ib w.e split charcoal
3.spalding white either split charcoal or are charcoal under the white mask.
4. spalding charcoal maybe w/e
your peacock is not spalding so if you give me wing number i can tell you if 50% or 25% spalding on the hens i think u got a 50% hen

if i was you i would keep the white and charcoal hens....reason i breed then spalding was a splalding charcoal hen have been known to lay eggs.

now if Randy charcoal w/e is a dark pied and one of those white chick is which is a least a split charcoal(now if white/charcoal she may not lay) but if split she will = 75% spalding charcoal pieds 25% spalding pieds split charcoal.......good odd most would be spalding charcoal w/e pied.....now think about it VERY FEW IF ANY HAVE BEEN RAISED


Frank remember..........those peachick are worth alot of dollars..I saw a charcoal bs w/e sell on egg bid for $950 few years back.

Bigcreek,,the pics you sent of his father should be enlarged big enough to wallpaper your living room.He is one bird that I honestly must say of all Peacock pictures I have seen here,,he by far has the most stunning train by far!! If my boy looks likes yours does in another 2 years,I will have a poster sized picture made of him.

Deerman,doing the flashlite roost check tonight I again looked at my charcoal male,,he does NOT have a white throat latch,,rather a white group of feathers down from his throat approx an inch or so,but it's definately not under his beak.

you are part right 2 copy to one copy=all w/e some 2 copy few 1 copy...if i'm right on silver pied i think they all carry two copy of the w/e gene.

my thinking on the silver pied is white gene,pied gene two copy of w/e gene.....and a bird with one copy w/e ,pied, and white gene would be those pied w/e birds.

The one bird I've been trying to decide if it's a Peacock,or peahen turns out to be an Emerald pied spalding,,has some green feathers down the front side of neck,,and two very distinct,perfectly matched silver-dark silver black bands of feathers down each side of it's tail.Middle of tail is all white feathers,with no eyes showing anywhere,,so possibly it's a hen after all? If so,that would be 3 hens to put with him,two are silver pieds,and this Emerald Pied spalding,,but I don't have any hens split to Charcoal,this guy is the only Charcoal on the farm.

Thank YOU for the compliment on our Smokey Boy. And he's got a personality to match. He is very smart and surprisingly the most aggressive breeder we have. And you had better get some wall space opened up for that poster. He looks so much like his papa it's almost scary.

That would be a extra if he is dark pied...mother split pied he could be. Like to follow and see what he produces.

Jeanna do you know it there are any whites from that pair of yours........i hatch two white from my charcoal split pied, but sold them local....darn i had some great mates for this birds..

its early he is only 2 yr but i see him producing some charcoal silver pieds in the future.

I made the mistake i sold my whites ,which was either a split charcoal or a white(charcoal)

Excellent advice regarding keeping the whites. If I hatch a white from these charcoals I would be so thrilled I would be on cloud nine for weeks! My peafowl friends (the humans) would probably be thrilled for me so I would just shut up about it.
