I'm going to guess Sapphire Gems on the blue birds. Local TSC has been carrying them this year.
She (hopefully a she) is supposed to be a barred rock. I got five barred rock and five australorps. If you start a new thread we can help confirm the breed.
Your avatar looks to be a barred rock.![]()
After watching video of some sapphire gem chicks, they are probably andulsians
I need to work on my impulse shopping, and not just at TSC...This is exactly what I’m talking about!
My friend (who works there & has her own chickens) was trying to tell me the chicks were BA and their wing feathers were coming in with white and I was like, “No those aren’t Australorp.”
I even googled what juveniles looked like to be sure they feather out black only...they do.
They were in a brooder with chicks labeled as “Asian”. What’s an Asian chicken?
The bottom line is they don’t know and they have plenty of other things they have to take care of so it’s best for the public to do their own homework.![]()
My friend believes in the “necklace” method of sexing chicks. I’m finding it hard to believe she’s a 4-H leader.Unfortunately the manager at one TSC near me told me she could sex the assorted bantamsI immediately discounted everything else she said. If you have the ability to look at a day/few day old bantam and tell it’s sex just by looking at it good on you but I’ve never heard of that in my life
