Chick has stopped zipping?

standing by,,, nearly intervened there eggsightedforlife, until your message pinged up - condensation is because of the room temp is alot colder, need to put my heating on. Only one other egg has pipped, and I’m not worried about it just this little one the other two not a peep. But they were postal and I know the percentage is low. Especially with our postman

Will update in a few hours or if any progress or no progress. My hearts in my mouth. Going out for a walk. This is madness who does this for fun? Never again .. fingers crossed i’ll leave this little ones fate in the lap of gods for the time being ..

It looks to me like it might have pipped into the air cell, but can't be sure.
When they miss the air cell, they can take a little longer, so when it gets to around 24 hours, before assisting, I'd candle. If the chick is in the air cell, then it might need help. If the air cell is still intact, the I'd wait a bit longer.

Most people on here use coconut oil but I only had bacitracin at home, Neosporin works too as long as it's NOT the kind with pain relief. I use a Q-Tip to apply it.

fyi - the no-pain-relief thing has been debunked. There really isn't enough pain medicine in it to make any difference. If buying a new tube, I'd buy without pain relief, just to err on the side of caution, but I've used whole tubes of the stuff with pain reliever included.

That is a very serious consideration to be made for anyone who is hatching... in addition to what will you do with all the extra boys. :hmm

I wasn't sure I could take it before I started... and it definitely has its' challenges... But the joy of new life coming all the time while my neighbors go about their blah life... has FAR outweighed any inconvenience or sadness.

For me if one dies int he shell... it's nature. If I help it and it dies anyways or because of my help... then I am much more invested and hurt when it doesn't make it.

Where are you located? What is the temp in your room? During the winter my house stays around 58 degrees and I don't get condensation like that... but it isn't the same bator as yours.. And I wrap blankets around to help keep my bator(s) from working too hard, making sure air holes aren't covered though.

If you do open the top to assist... wrap blankets or something to help stop your humidity from escaping... the rapid change can cause shrink wrapping to those who are already pipped if your ambient humidity is low.

Especially the first time hatching can be sooo scary... Finding something else to focus on is a good choice!

You've got other pips!! :wee I'm more excited for you than nervous now. :fl :jumpy:jumpy

So update

Two eggs have pipped - total 3... 1 remaining.

Uno - that’s his name now as he the first Hasn’t made any progress just keeping his beak out the hole, which would make sense if he has just externally pipped the shell instead of the air sac?

The other one has almost hatched as we speak , he done it in the time from when I said earlier and almost finished

.

Congrats on the one that has hatched!! :clap

The first pipper (coincidentally, my first pipper almost never actually hatches first lol) may have possibly missed the air cell. As long as you see activity, breathing, egg movements, hear chirping, etc, you should be ok to wait. Hopefully the other little dude will encourage the first pipper to come on out!
Watch for the membrane to look dark and dry, brown/tan colored. It should stay white to grayish color.

So ones hatched and stomping about the bator like a t-rex knocking all the eggs here and there.

The little one is just tweeting from his hole.. what do I do the humidity has shot up now one has hatch and temp has dropped a little

Looks like a dull brown compared to the other. I really think he probably stuck? If there is still a air cell how can he turn in his egg?

All of that is perfectly normal!

If you can grab the egg out really quick, and not let a bunch of humidity out, and if you feel like you need to check to see if its stuck, its totally up to you. I'd pull it out quickly (carefully) and candle first. See if you can tell if the chick has broken into the air cell or not.

If its stuck, just peel from the existing pip hole, and remove the shell over the air cell end. Do not remove the inner membrane over the chick. Moisten it with Vaseline, oil, etc, and check for active blood vessels before proceeding any further.
