Hello,
I'm a new backyard chicken owner. Our first chick we rescued turned out to be a Cockerel. We are located in Hawaii so he was a feral day old chick, his siblings were killed by mongoose. At first I thought he was a Leghorn, but then he started to grow random black spotted feathers at 6- 8 weeks old. Now he's 12 weeks old and he has copper brown feathers on his back and saddle area. His legs are a very pale pink/peach almost white color. He's quite vocal, he'll cluck back at you when you talk to him, as well as scream/growl back when you make a sound of frustration. Lol. My daughter calls him her emotional support chicken because he just makes the most appropriate vocalizations when she talks to him. Like he understands her. Lol. At the moment he likes to be picked up and held. But at times he does go after and attack feet or articles of clothing that are conspicuous to him, like pants or bright colored shirts. I write this because it might give a clue to his personality &
temperament, breed wise? I've attached photos of our Roo. Another concern we have is if he needs to be in his own coop? He bullies our 2 younger pullets, sometimes goes in a straight rooster attack on them if they get to close to his space. Should we keep him separate from the girls? We have no plans of cross breeding.
