Chickens eating feathers

We see our chickens eat shedded feathers all the time, it’s ok as long as they dont start plucking each other

I've just noticed one of my hens plucking another and eating the feathers. Seems like a one on one situation ... no other hens displaying either behavior. Could protein be my problem? I feed them organic layer pellets (16% I think, maybe 18%) and scratch grains occasionally.

Possibly the organic layer...I never feed it..I use Grower with oyster shell on the side..Zero issues here ever..

Other folks have reported issues with the organic feeds. Try upping their protein, even a handful of kitty kibble now and then. Or if you have some meat in your freezer that has passed it's "use by" date.

If OP is currently using layer, she could certainly beef up her feed with an alternate source of animal protein.
