Phew, tonight was a little alarming! I went out to get the birds in for the night and spotted Huka:

And, well, if you can't tell why this was alarming, here's a picture from further back:

See her? She was on top of the door to the coop! That's a 6 foot door with an additional foot or so to the ground!


By the time I got her down, I was surprised to see Rangi all the way up on the roof! Before I got a picture of her there, though, she moved to a nearby tree branch, about 10 feet in the air:

Looks like it's time to clip some wings! (Well, and move those fence panels, too! :/ )

Yes, very much so, although I hope it doesn't effect poor Rangi's ability to hop to my shoulder! Boy, though, they weren't kidding when they said white egg-layers could fly!

Ihi had lots of pictures taken today because I had the hardest time getting a good one for her 12-week picture. Fortunately, she's pretty whether she poses just so or not.

At first I thought there was no difference between Roha and Rangi, but I can see it now: Roha has a white chest and Rangi just has white speckles. Thanks for the pictures! Oh, and it looks like Hika Ma has a single comb.

Hika Ma has a 'modified pea' comb with three rows, but the center one is more prominent than the other two. I think he has some single comb lineage in him, though EEs are a jumble anyway, so who knows.


I got a few more pictures this evening as the babies were going to roost. I found Roha on the 2 inch wide ledge above the door to the coop:

Meanwhile, Rangi tried to find her place:
