And... Oops. I guess this is why you shouldn't hang out under the perches, Mr. Po...

Great pictures! And, yep, my girls do their nesting in all the wrong spots. Every. Single. Day.

Chickens, you either love them or you hate them. And you know you just gotta love them!

It's like I've said to my mom before. It's similar to having 36 toddlers running around outside. You're always cleaning up their poo, making sure they don't eat things they shouldn't, keeping them out of trouble, and trying to teach them what they're supposed to do while watching them do things as they want to anyway.

That. Is. AMAZING!

I am laughing right now; my chickens have always been like "my kids" but I never put it in those precise words before!

It is decided!! :weee My 2014 babies are officially named! And with just 59 days to spare! :D

So assuming all goes according to plan, I will be getting 2 Black Copper Marans, a Welsummer, and a Silver Gray Dorking from Meyer Hatchery, and then 2 Cream Legbars from the same person I got Margie from. Can't wait!!

My Marans, I just had to find French origin names for, partly because my current Marans, Frou-Frou, has a French-origin name, and also because then I will have three French hens with three French names. Their names will be Georgette, because I just fell in love with that name, and Louise, after Alex Louis Armstrong. (Go ahead. Google him. ;) )

Mabel is the name I have had picked out for my Welly from the start and I'm keeping that name for her as I think it's quite fitting for Welsummer hens. I like the thought of calling her Mabey as a nickname, too. :D

My Dorking, who is a long time coming, will be named Telma. This particular name I came across and liked the meaning of, and then realized it was the name of a character in a game I love, so I stuck with it. :D Telma is a name meaning volition or will, a strong name for a birdy that will hopefully grow to be a big, strong, beautiful hen.

And, of course, my Legbars are Romanadvoratrelundar and Serenadellatrovella, Romana IV and Lady Serena for short, after two Time Ladies from the Doctor Who universe. :D

So excited for May! :weee I don't know if I can wait another two months!!

Haha, wow, are you ever excited! I am too--more chickie pictures!!

Oh, and, a funny story for you--a friend asked me what I was doing--we were talking on the phone--and I said "looking at chick pictures" and there was literally a long pause before she said, "what pictures?!" in a tone that clearly suggested she was thinking what you are likely thinking now--and then I explained to her I was looking at baby chicken pictures. I was laughing after that!

I sure am! :celebrate 58 days to go!

 Oh my goodness, I had a similar experience to that! Last spring, a classmate asked me what I was going to do over summer break, and I didn't even think about my wording and told her I was going to pick up chicks. She was totally stunned until I explained myself! :lau

Oh goodness! Yeah, none of my friends thought I was sane when I told them I keep some of my chickens indoors over the winter. But we're all insane where I work, so they quickly believed me and accepted my "insanity".
