Chickies, Chickies, Chickies!! Meet the new additions! (Pic heavy!)

Yeah, Chickenfan, I know what you're saying. My EEs have been the worst it seems, which is weird because many of my EE hens have been delightful (like my dear Betty :love ). I had two (I still have one, but the other was eaten by something) that actually ripped through chicken wire to fight each other. I had to keep them completely separate from each other! I have yet to raise a rooster that has been perfect, anyway--though Po has been the best so far and I have high hopes for him once he's out of that 'teenage hormone' phase. :D

And yeah, Fishnet, I always get rooster paranoia pretty badly every year, though this year I actually didn't have any paranoia with the chicks as I usually. I have 7 votes pullet and 3 votes cockerel on Margaret / Marka, who shall from here on be known as 'Margaret Until Proven Otherwise', Margaret for short. ;) It's like I was saying to my mom, though, I just don't want to get my hopes up and be disappointed, you know? After all, she did beat the tar out of Hika Ma pretty well last week (to which I say, 'you go, girl!' ).

Sorry if it seems I wasn't following much of a train of thought here--just got home from Chemistry and it was a lecture day. Fun times.

Okay, well it's been a while since I updated here, but here I am. My week has not started well, but I won't go into that here. As far as the little ones, unfortunately, Hika Ma has reached full eviction from the flock. He beat up on the evil hen--yes, he beat up on her!-- and so he has run out of chances.

Po, on the other hand, is starting to gain respect from the older girls, though most of them still give him what's for for being fresh. He is still separate for the little girls' sakes, but as you'll see, it won't be long before he can go back out with them!

And the best part of the post--pictures! :D The little ones are 15 1/2 weeks old today! Look, combs! (Okay, well not everyone has one, but most of them!)

Oh, we mustn't forget dear Margaret!

She was really happy to have outside access again once that hornet swarm moved on! I barely see her inside anymore! (I have it set up so that the coop addition is open for her, but blocked to the rest of the birds so that they don't pick on her.)

Glam shot!

Roha squatted!! :weee

I was petting her and she just went into position! :D Here I was thinking Whiri would be the first to, what with the comb and all!

And in other news, I checked to see if Margaret was in her carrier for the night yet and found a little white egg! ...But she doesn't seem mature enough to lay, and this egg was almost identical in color and shape to the Sebrights' eggs... So apparently someone jumped the fence. My silly birds!

You have some beautiful chickens. Rangi reminds me of my Betsy. She is always giving me the stink eye. All my girls have started laying now, except Betsy. She is squatting, but no eggs yet. When I go into the run in the morning, some of the girls squat as soon as I reach to pet them and I only have to speak to Wilma, and she'll squat. What breed is Huka? She is beautiful!

Aw, yeah, some of my girls get a little overzealous with their squats, too. I have one hen that could be more than 20 feet away from me, but if I call her name, she'll squat. Such silly birds!

Huka is a silver Lakenvelder. :)
