My BO hen and her 3 chicks are still sleeping in a nesting box at night! What gives? They will be 9 weeks old tomorrow and they still try to stuff themselves underneath her every night. She's not taking them to the roosting poles as the other hens have when their chicks were around 4-6 weeks old. She takes her chicks every night to the nesting box. And it's getting a bit cramped in there!
This is her 2nd batch for the season. Her first chicks were in July. And she abandoned them at exactly 4 weeks: went up to the top of the roosting poles and never paid any more attention to them. They were too young and they spent the next few weeks hiding in the woods until bed time. She wouldn't have anything to do with them.
Now it's opposite extremes. Should I make her go to the roosts at night?
