This isnt something to "suit nonsmokers" it's a health issue. I go to bars .. not to drink or smoke but to play pool... comparing alcohol with cigs is not the same thing. Someone sitting next to me drinking a beer is not affecting my health at that moment. Unless they leave and drive.. but that's a whole other topic that is also regulated by laws. I'd certainly frequent a pool hall that wasnt a bar .. if there was one. I do like socializing with my smoking/drinking friends though. If cigarette's didnt produce smoke that was toxic to non-smokers.. I wouldnt have a problem with it. If smoker's sat at a bar and put a patch on or chewed gum... more power to them.. but when that smoke wafts over to me and I have to breath it in and it makes my eyes water.. that's a whole different ball game. CA's restaurants do fine... , our hotels offer smoking and non-smoking rooms.... so you can puff to your content... in your own air space.

I guess the difference for me is public places vs private.... if I was told I couldnt smoke a cigar on my deck I'd be hopping mad but in a public place .. I just don't see the issue when it's a health hazard that could affect others.

I agree though it's nasty when you are outside and see someone had emptied there car ashtray on the road...I am not possitive on this, but I thought I heard a few years ago how deer in a certain part of Florida were getting hit on the road ALOT because they were eatting the cigarette butts off the roads...Kinda like they were addicted to them..
No problem, I just wanted to make sure you knew I wasnt directing it at you or anyone here.. just venting on the smoker's that do dump their trash. Man that is nasty the deer are eating the butts too... gross. I wonder if it's mainly during mating season

A small group of well placed complainers has compromised the rights of the rest of this towns citizens on a number of issues.
Though in this case they got heat from the feds stemming from a report stating that our air quality is among the worst in the nation. I've flown into LA in the summer and we don't look anything like that.

They have burn days here. and are trying to do away with wood burning fireplaces in certain areas. We also get no rain for about 6 months out of the year and forest fire's take out home's yearly so some regulation is needed. I'm sure you've all seen CA on fire on the news a few times......

Even the slightest smoke chokes me. I have asthma. I tried to go to a local bar and have a pitcher of beer with my hubby last November. I got through a glass and a half and couldn't take it any more. The smoke free bar was crowded and didn't have any available seats. Now I'm not much for going to bars so that's not a big deal. There's one restaurant in our town that people smoke in and I can't go in. But the one's who really suffer are the wait staff and servers. Yet even they can choose not to work somewhere they can't breath.
Interestingly, the Iowa senator who pushed this legislation to fruition into a law is a millionaire attorney-turned-State Senator married to another attorney. Her husband, the big wig attorney, was the Iowa lawyer who prosecuted big tobacco for a settlement paid to Iowa.
