CNN - One person has died and 465 people have gotten sick after interacting with pet poultry

Wash your hands after handling your chickens, and don't lick them, and don't wear your chicken boots into the house and then lick the floor.

Salmonella on chickens is one of the easiest things to avoid. You're far more likely to get food related illnesses from badly handled commercially produced food items.

Before I bring my pet hen indoors, I wipe her feet with lysol wipes to remove any dirt and mud. She loves to sit on my bed (she wears a chicken diaper). I guess I am going to get sick?

Are you being serious or are you trolling?

That is my pet hen wearing a diaper.

If you are legitimately worried, you can have your bird(s) tested for salmonella. It is exceedingly rare in backyard flocks. Follow proper hygiene and either stop bringing your chicken into the house, or accept the risk, however low.

ETA - proper hygiene = don't kiss your chicken, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer after handling her, cover the part of the bed she sits on with a towel that you can spray with disinfectant. I keep a spray bottle of Oxine on the kitchen counter and spray many things with it, I even keep a little bottle in my purse, easier than most of the hand sanitizers you can buy.
