Thanks Gail, I'm pretty sure it will be what I was hoping for eventually, it's just taking a long time to get there. I missed you and everyone also...................terribly.

Just got home from a week trip to Florida. Crops look in desperate need of rain in many states. I delivered some Columbians to Kentucky and Florida. Lost a good old Black hen to the heat while I was gone. Wishing you all well. Good to hear from you Nancy!

Gads, you've had such a horrible rash of loses recently, I'm so sorry to hear about your beautiful Black, I know you don't have any to spare. I keep thinking that my friend who is taking care of my place while I'm recovering is going to call one day and tell me I've lost some birds to the heat, but so far so good. I worry about them terribly and can't wait to get home. I think I'm finally going to get to go home next Tuesday if all goes well. The rehab people want to see my home and go through all of the chores that I have so they can see how I'm going to improvise for the next 3 mo. and take care of everyone. I've still got some help offered from the folks that have been taking care of things. God bless my dear friends, what ever would I have done without them. I can hardly wait for this fall and to see everyone.

Well we went to our daughters house and when we returned we found our 1st lost chick, The littlest buff male did not make it and we just found him when we came home. He was running around pecking and scratching just like a normal little chick when we left.
As I have dealt with exotic animals for years and with everything you have the chance to loose one unexpctedly but it still sucks.
I guess the runt will be marked as FTT,
IF the wing feather method is accurate we now have 1 black boy, 1 Buff boy 2 Black girls and 2 Buff girls left,

I lost one of mine a couple of weeks ago on day 7 - it seemed absolutely the perfect picture of health all week, until I came home from work that night and it had died. You're right - it does suck. Unbelievable how attached you can get to them after just a few days. I have to tell myself that Mother Nature has a greater plan.

surprising though with no sign of illness the little guy was gone just in a couple hours, they are only 6 days old and I was expecting to loose one or two in the 1st 2 maybe 3 days and we thought all was good to go, and past the sudden death stage.
I cant wait for them to hit 4 weeks and see if the ones we think are cockerels are and if the ones we think are pullets really are

It's so sad to hear about you guys and girls struggling with the heat. Here we are half way through winter, i cant wait for the warmth and green to return to my garden! I am sad that i may have to fence off my cochins (see thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/685008/adding-lf-to-a-bantam-flock-with-one-standard-cockerel)

But excited about tracking down some gold laced cochins. What colour mixes if any will i get if i let my future gold laced roo breed with my black cochins and white cochins? i am very excited about getting some gold laced girls to add to my white and black girls!

Was wondering if anyone knows of Cochins International having a meet of somekind at the Lucasville show this October 6-7. Or also, if anyone knows of another all Cochins show in th works?
