Cochin Thread!!!

If anyone is interested in working with the blue laced red cochin project I will be selling out. I have too many projects. I have 2 pullets and some f2 eggs. pm me if you'd like to take over this project

What did you use to create the hens? Also, does anyone have any ideas on what would be the best mating to get good type without ruining the lacing? I know you are breeding the pullets with a mille fleur cochin with an expectation that 50% of chicks will be blr. Just not sure how all this works, but don't mind giving the project a good go if I can get some direction...

I love the BLRW looks, but prefer cochin as a breed. So, this would be great for me...If I can work out the genetics of it all.

Thanks!

I'm working on BLR also, but I'm taking a slightly different approach:

I have decided I would like some large fowl as well! I sold all my egg layers (RIR, Rocks, Wyandottes) and would like to keep a one specific breed for eggs and ornamental. I think the cochin is going to fit that bill just fine! or brahmas

My bantams are much better at being broody and mommies than my standards but they do their best. My standards are just so big they seem to lose the chicks and often step on or crush them when in the nest box. I have never had that problem with my bantams. This past spring I had 16 banty Cochins broody all at once and they all had eggs under them. Only my Silkies go broody more than my bantam Cochins. The standards not as often. I seldom let them standards raise anything but started large fowl chicks like Jersey Giant chicks that are about a day old already. But those banty girls hatch and raise the chicks up for several weeks before they are ready to let them go.
