Snow White also 16 days old

Sunshine 15 days old

Jewel my amazing broody Momma. She took them out free ranging for the first time today and they loved it. All the chicks are doing so great and integrating very well with the rest of the flock.
Rhandi, I loved the pic of Sunshine contemplating her navel when you first posted it, and now I see you have it for an avatar. I think you should send it in for the BYC caption contest pic.

I'm familiar with Stromberg's, the only thing I'll say about that is, you go ahead and get your show birds from them and I'll meet you in the show hall's. We'll see how well they do. BTY, you can show anything, the real question is how well will they do.
I'm not saying that you don't have great bird's, or that hatcheries have the best. Im not the biggest fan of hatcheries my self. I think of the the same as puppy mills .But if someone ask if they sell something it would be a lie to say no and they do. They probably won't be blue ribbon winner. Like everyone you have. Sorry me say the truth upsets you

A lot of people sell "Show quality " birds, the problem is that they just are not good quality. Same thing happens here, it seem that every single person selling chickens here advertises them as Show Quality. The sad fact is that hardly any of them ever are.

Buy from a reputable breeder, go to a show and have a look, do some homework and then make an informed decision. If you are embarking on a tough project you will need other contacts breeding the same birds, to swap ideas and honest information.

Sure you can find a SQ bird at a hatchery, but that will be one out of a thousand i would bet.

Start with someone known to breed a specific variety, more then likely they will be happy to answer questions and follow up with you if you need additional help. People into specific breeds and colours tend to know a lot about them and are passionate about them. Much more so then a hatchery would be. Read the SOP and know it well before purchasing anything, know the history of the birds and the generations that produced them.

Having said all of that the decision is ultimately yours, but if you are planning on showing, then purchasing hatchery stock will set you back a good few decades.

I think this is a frizzle cochin. I think I know the answer, but am asking anyway.. its 5 weeks old, feathered out super fast, but just started developing the crest. Im leaning towards roo, but nothing besides the crest n wattles says it..

Help! I need to find a gold laced bantam cochin in western Wa! My little girl only has 3 chickens, all cochins, a black roo, a blue hen and a gold laced hen. Her sweet little gold laced got chased by the neighbors dog last night and flew up into a tree. She was too high up for us to reach on the ladder. I found feathers and pieces this morning. I dont have the heart to tell her what happened, I just said she wandered off. She hasn't stopped crying. She will be going out of town for the next week to a funeral and I would love to have a new "Baby" here when she gets back.

Please, if you have one that you might be willing to part with, or know of someone who does, let me know. If we can pull this off, it will be the highest point of her summer! We live in Shelton, WA.

Sorry it's highly unlikely that you'll find a GL in time for her to NOT notice. It is a rare breed and unless you order from a hatchery (and they may be sold out) you won't get one easily.

delder, please don't think I'm upset. This is one of the things I hate about forums, it's all to easy for someone to come across in a way that they don't intend. My hope was to passionately make my point. Guess I did, just not the way I had hoped. Andy's right and he made several good points. There is so much that goes into breeding good birds, let alone show quality birds, that it feels very frustrating when folks claim they have show quality stock when they haven't even exhibited a single bird of their own. I decided to revisit Stromberg's and noticed that they have no pictures of their "show quality" birds. Believe me when I say there's a reason for that. One thing I will give them is their prices, of the birds I looked into the prices were very reasonable if in fact they really were SQ.
I'm sure you felt kind of jumped on by me, or that you'd stepped in a hornets nest and for that I really am sorry.

Looks like a hatchery quality Mille Fleur d'Uccle cockerel. I really don't see any Cochin in this bird and it's definitely NOT a frizzle. I think the crest you are referring to is actually his comb, but you're correct with the sex.
