Cochin Thread!!!

@James Beller So sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful bird! A few of my latest hatchlings. Armand is the daddy, blue frizzle bantam cochin. Not sure about the moms yet. White silkie or cuckoo bantam cochin hens.
With the dark skin I would say they're mixed with the silky. Super cute

@WVduckchick
-  What are you using as leg bands on those itty bitty guys?

Those are just the smallest little zip ties. I bought assorted colors so I could tell the chicks apart. I like to watch progression as they grow feather out. I take lots of pics and try to learn things to watch for. When they start to get tight, I clip it off and replace with the same color.

Neat! I have wondered what to use as leg bands on chicks to help sort out who is who when they are all being brooded together, but I didn't know that one could buy zip ties that small. Where did you get them?

I got these at Rural King but the link Cliff posted are about the same. Mine are only 4" long though. I bought an assorted color pack, then every extra color single packs they had! Lol

You can also use 2, different color combinations, or left leg, right leg.

I just found them to be the cheapest and easiest thing at the time. Just gotta watch that they don't get too tight.

Hello, I'm getting two cochins in a month. Is there anything I should know? They're bantams and I'm getting two silkies with them. I'm buying them as strait run, are you able to tell if they're male or female when they're a day old? Is there any special care I should give them?

Yes, I remember and they are so cute! I'm so happy that they have a good home, and that's absolutely ADORABLE that the kids called them the Penguin Babies. I LOVE penguins. Like seriously love them - my horse brand is a "rocking penguin." Husband thinks my love for penguins borders on the unhealthy.
