Cochin Thread!!!

My little roos are really growing up! They're officially 6 months old today! The black one in the front was so scraggly and small for so long, he's really impressed me in the past two months!

I have two standard blue cochin pullets... about six months old, give or take a couple of weeks.

One of them started laying last week and has given me a perfect little (well, not THAT little) cream-colored egg every day!

Excellent layer!

Can someone please help me with the Blue Genes? I've got some of the basic down: Blue x Blue = 50% Blue, 25% Black and 25% Splash. Splash x Splash = 100% Splash. And Self-Blue x Self-Blue =100% Self-Blue.

So here's my question: When a breeding "recipe" calls for a single copy/dosage of Blue, exactly what does that mean?

Further from what I'm reading, if I were to use a Blue Splash, that would be using a double copy/dosage. So from that, can I assume that to get a single copy of blue, I need to use a Blue that is from a Blue x Blue?

Would using a Self-Blue be the same as a Splash, in that it would be considered a "double dose"?

What ever they look like, I am sure they'll be cute lil puffballs. I have an RIR/Buff Orp mix. I took her to another cockerel mix who is 1/2 Australorp and 1/2 Buff Orp, just to see what comes out. I hatched just one egg, and this wild looking chick came out. So, you might get something wild and cool.

Sorry about the lousy pic. She is on the go 100% of the time. lolol
