Good evening, I would love to see some pics of show quality partridge cochins. I have recently gotten some and want to know if it would be worth it to put then in a show when they're older.
Mine are not pure and I am not sure of the sex yet but these are the two I have right now. The dad is either a splash cochin or a buff cochin mom can be a barred rock, austrolorp, rhode island red, gold laced wyandotte or a black cochin. Not sure who laid the egg.
This is Duckie at 4 weeks old
And this is Opie or Opal. I am leaning more towards Opie since the comb is turning red already. He or she is the same age, 4 weeks.
I have 10 more in the incubator that will hatch Wednesday but I can't count them yet.

Blue Does Dilute Red and Splash even more...Dominant white Dilutes Red also...
ok now i'm confused because i have blue and red and also splash and red in my kaleidoscopes. if that were true wouldnt the red be diluted and not dark red against the blue and splash?

Hummmmm right.......I just thought of this also, how can you get Red Pyle if dominant white dilutes red?
Anyone going to the show in Sedalia, MO Oct 22? I have decided to go and am going to meet my sister there. I would like to be able to pick up some bantam black cochin pullets or breeder hens from some show stock to put with my OLD rooster. I recently re-aquired this roo after raising him as a chick and then selling him. I have lost track of how old he is, but he is at least 7 years old. It's kind of a sentimental thing as this is the only remaining offspring from my son's old show rooster.
If anyone would have some show quality pullets or hens I could meet them at the show. I would also be interested in picking up an unrelated show quality rooster...... just in case my old boy can't get the job done.
PM me if you have some top quality BBC's you would want to sell and could meet me in Sedalia.

I think I have to agree with cochincoop and lilcrow here: Both Dominant White (I) and Blue (Bl) are considered diluters which have a greater influence on Eumelanin (black). Lavender (lav) is considered to be a diluter with equal effect on both Eumelanin (black) and Pheomelanin (red).
Heterozygous Blue (one copy) gives you Blue; homozygous Blue (two copies) gives you Splash. Lavender is autosomal recessive, so there is no effect with just one copy (heterozygous).
Red Pyle is Dominant White added to Red Duckwing. If you are seeing a dilution of the red, then the Di (Dilute) gene is present.
