You don't have to build more pens!! If you ship her to me I am building gorgeous breeding coops right now!!! She would have her own suite and run with handsome, charming boy!!! I love her!

I have no interest in building more pens but she is so sweet; harder to resist than chocolate.

I have a pair of bantam cochins that I am trying (

) to consider buff columbians.

What do you think?

I think they are a bit darker in the buff area than I would like......but we sure need diversity here in Maine when it comes to showable bantam cochins in varieties other than white and black..

Should I take the risk and take them to the show??? Or will I be laughed out of the building?

Today when I got home I found a just hatched chick from the Black Mottled roo that was paired with her at an auction.
I have been looking for a good Black Mottled to improve the type in my mille Fleurs. He was a bit "long in the tooth/spurs" and I thought that must be why such a nice bird was at an auction.
I took a chance and got him (them). Looks like he is fertile.

The chick is out of a Mille Fleur pullet but the Blue girl has been laying for about 2 months now so looks like I will raising Mottles too.
It is against my will. Those little fluffy butts are sneaky.

I am in love with the pattern and do want them, but (don't hate me for saying this

) I don't want to pay too much for a chicken. Also, I don't know enough about the breed (or the specific birds' quality) to make a judgement call on whether they are worth a certain amount or not. They are about a year and a half.
So, what would be a reasonable amount to pay?

PS I do have pictures she sent me, but I don't really want to post them as they aren't mine. I would be fine with someone "critiquing" them in a PM.

As in just over a year? Rhetorically speaking; How much do you want them? How much can you afford? How much are you in love with them?

don't know about everyone else, but by 2 weeks you should be seeing comb and wattles on the cockerels way more than the pullets. i've been pretty good at comparing mine. this last time i had all pullets LOL so i kept second guessing myself.

I don't see any wattles on any of them but most of them have little combs that are starting to form. Almost all of them have wing feathers and tail feathers except for 3.
