Just for fun...

Please tell me what you think they are and most importantly WHY! From the big details to the little. I'm trying to train my eyes to what you are looking for.... Thanks!

Hi, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

The breed/gender game is one of my faves, though I don't claim any fame in the accuracy department. But still so fun..

Definitely seeing some boys in there. Can you tell us how many birds or number each one in some way? Also hugely helpful is age. And if you know the breeds already.

I will start by saying the last one has some big fat meaty legs and is definitely a cockerel. :drool Nice red comb and waddles.

Directly above him looks like a pullet... not much waddles and no color to them or the comb.

And that one on top, #1.. wow that's a big comb! :pop

Great pics. :love

There aren't many details in chicks this age and color besides combs, wattles and legs. Birds with comparatively large combs and wattles showing pink or red in them will generally be cockerels. Thicker legs can also indicate cockerels. Using those criteria I would guess chicks 1, 3, 4, 9, and 11 are probably cockerels. Chicks 5 and 6 could be as well, maybe a little slower growing. But I stress that it's still early and you should wait a few more weeks and try again.

Chick # also appears to have NO tail??

That has ALWAYS been male, in my experience.

Currently thinking 2, and 10 might be pullets and pretty much all others are throwing vibes... And I excel at hatching boys! :barnieThose numbers wouldn't at all be out of line with mine.

But it's definitely still early! :fl

Well, it would help if you knew the breeds and the age. That would help alot.
I'll still guess now, but once I know the breeds/ages I may or may not reconsider. As a general guess i made a list, however, don't forget birds develop differently according to breed and even just the bird in general.

I look at comb/wattle, thickness of legs, body stance, and feet size. I'll also look at comb development. It's not 100% but female combs will developed straight and males will developed more rounded at the top. Again, not 100%, but it's something I've always looked for. I'd love to see them in a few weeks!

1. Cockerel
2. Pullet
3. Cockerel
4. Cockerel
5. Iffy. Leaning towards cockerel
6. Iffy. Leaning towards cockerel
7. Pullet
8.pullet
9. Pullet
10. Pullet
11. Cockerel

Thanks! I've handled almost every one every day, so they are pretty cooperative.

The first chick is the heaviest at 1.3lbs. Don't know if that is on track or not....

Also, lots of males are fine in this scenario, more meat!
