While coffee was brewing I went out and watered the shaded irises. The only way to ensure their survival in the high desert with minimal effort is to plant them in partial shade. Anyway, a hot-air balloon (ABQ area is keen for flyers) decided to descend into the cul-de-sac on the other side of my orchard. This totally freaked out the dog that was in the yard with me, so I dropped the hose and put her inside. Picked up the hose to resume watering and soon had ant gloves. The hose was swarming with them! Been picking them off my clothes ever since. Only two bit me: One on the elbow and one crawled onto and under my shorts and onto my behind. Luckily they were the little buggers and not the big black nasty ones out in the veggie compound.

p.s.
But I consider this a good morning. Caught another pack rat that had taken out 10 of my pepper transplants! Not going to have much of a pepper crop this year, I fear, as the plants were lumberjacked pretty severely for timely regrowth. So need to decide what to put in that row....squash? corn? I dunno. Kind of disheartened by the whole gardening-for-varmints scenario that has taken place this year.

I'd go with squash. Love squash. I think this late in the year you may be safe from squash bugs. So I've read.

Good morning! Yesterday DH cut the grass around the house and so of course Mother Nature said he hath cut the grass so I musteth make it rain to grow back! :gig We don’t usually have green grass this far into June. We have sandy dirt so 3 days without rain and it’s brown.
I’m enjoying the coffee thank you!

Thanks it's 3:12 pm should I heat up a cup? Hmm ok I will thanks! Just got back from the hardware store and feed store. The busiest we've seen it since the Covid stuff began. People very good about maintaining distance and masks on too. The feed store has a mandatory handwashing thing out front which is just great! I wish more places would do that. They have lots of young pullets so I'll go back in a few weeks and see what's left.
