Comb Genetics

Thank you Ducks.

Unfortunately, I am not getting anything from that post that is talking about the carnation comb.
Maybe I should say...nothing about that post to me, is describing the carnation.

Another question....is Carnation really just another name for "sprigs" or "side sprigs"?

From what I have been able to find the Carnation comb is a single comb with a recessive allele that causes the split in the back.

I don't think that post was referring to a carnation comb either. The carnation comb is not the same as a single comb with side sprigs.

In post #27 Sonoran Silkies posted about a Carnation combed birded from a Pea-Single cross.

I did?

Okay, I just googled carnation comb, and hte photos I found are nothing like what I was trying to describe. I will try to draw a picture and post a photo of it. I am not the best artist, so bear with me. Imagine taking a razor to a single comb, and splitting it down the center of the "sawteeth" from the back of the comb about halfway towards the front, then spreading the now separated double single combs out from each other.

No, it was not like a La Fleche comb. More like a buttercup that was erect, and the two halves were jointed at the front. Here...I found some old photos:
from the front--sorry it's out of focus and you can't get a clear view:

and fromt he rear, you can see how it is split in two:

another:

and one more:

None are really great views, unfortunately.

There s a Pennedesenca thread, They have the full blown Carnation. It is called Carnation because it looks like a carnation.

I believe Kim was and is more interested in what happens when the Carnation Comb is crossed with the SC Marans and what can be done except cull the off spring.

Yes Sir, Don that is what I was interested in and more.

I just can't except that there is this much limited information about them out there. I read the Penne thread and really found no information in there that I could take the bank as far as genetics of the carnation.
Also, while what I have expressing in birds does look very similar to the combs photo'd in the Penne thread, they are different. The "carnations" blooming on these Marans is not like the Penne combs, the Marans "carnations" are points out each side and don't have that big flappy bowl looking type thing of skin on the way out to the points out either side of the blade, kinda reminded me of the "Flying Nun's" hat thing, or habit, IDK what it is but that's what the Penne combs looked like to me.
What I am getting on these Marans is just points....not little sprigs, not big flappy wing looking things, but points....just like the ones on the top of the comb that stayed in a nice little row, just a smaller version. They probably are the same just express different. I don't know.
Did that even make sense?

I'm basically looking to see if anyone has any thoughts? Is it controlled by 2 genes, one from each parent? Does it express with only 1 copy? What are the inheritance properties and things like that is what I am after if anyone has any ideas.
