I would take the picture of the b complex that Miss Lydia referenced on post #14. Show the people at the feed store that you need this bottle or their equivalent.

I didn’t have any niacin (vitamin B3) with my first Pekins. But now that I have several I wouldn’t raise them without it. I give it to them regularly. Nothings wrong with them, I can just see how their weight could cause problems and don’t want to deal with it.

Also you can show your local feed store this picture and ask for the equivalent if they don’t have the same brand.

@chickens really did bring up a good point that if you can’t let your Pekins out to exercise regularly, they will have more leg problems.

Thanks...I know I did..Medicating sometimes isn't needed. Try the vitamin if needed?..Changes in feed will help the Pekin more..
Anyways...:frow

Okay, so this stuff is okay for everyone then? I've never had pekins. I wasn't aware of the problems they have with their legs! :( poor things. And they will probably be wondering around the yard when they get big enough. So this will help the legs right?

I love love love my Pekins. They are so pretty and squishy but they were originally bred to produce large amounts of meat for butchering. They have really rapid growth. Moreso than other breeds. The niacin, is a vitamin. Think of it as taking your vitamins everyday like we all should but forget. And the series of B Vitamins (B complex) have a feel good effect on humans as well as ducks. So they will literally feel better in general. If you’ve ever had a vitamin B shot, you will know what I’m talking about. I personally take b vitamins everyday. Although it’s not from the livestock bottle.:lau If you get to the store and are confused, send me a private message and I will give you my cell number so we can text back and forth so you feel comfortable with what you are getting.;)

Also with respect to the exercise. Think of it from the human perspective, if there are large overweight people and they start going out everyday and exercising, they will be in better health than if they were a couch potato.
