I live just outside of York, PA ~ 5.26 square miles ~ population 43,718 (in 2010) 14th largest city in PA
* Was the Capitol of the Continental Congress when the Articles of Confederation were drafted and adopted. Sometimes called "The First Capitol of the Unites States" as the the term "The United States of America" was first used when York was the temporary Capitol.
* During the American Civil War, York was the largest Northern town to be occupied by the Confederate army from June 28 - 30, 1863 before they marched on to nearby Gettysburg where they fought one of the most famous battles of the Civil War from July 1 - 3 (re-enactments are going on right now.)
* Home of the Pfaltzgraff Pottery Company (before they were bought out)
* Home of York Barbell Company
* Home of the York Peppermint Pattie (before they were bought out)
* Home of York International HVAC
* Has a large Harley Davidson Motorcycle manufacturing plant.
* Home to two major manufacturers of modern hydro-power water turbines, Voith Siemens Hydro and American Hydro, both of which manufacture enormous parts in their plants.
* Home of Stauffer Biscuit Company ~ making animal crackers and other items since 1871
* York is also a short distance from Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant.
